parents all over like to put the blame on others, role models should be instilled by parents.
if you see your kid looking at the wrong crowd? guess what? you better do something about it right now!

Interesting article about Vick's "limited" allowance back in the NFL: http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=4359354
The other thing I found was he had to contribute $923,000.00 for the rehab and care for his 60 abused dogs, and is now filing for bankruptcy. (One of the highest paid players in NFL history).
Part of his excuse was that he grew up with dog fighting. Sorry pal, as an adult you knew the law. You broke it, and based on the conditions and location of the dogs, you knew very well it was against the law. Apparently because you were such a superstar, you thought you were above the law.
Personally, I hold this type person much more responsible that the average joe. Remember all the fuss about Paris Hilton in jail? No difference. These morons become so self centered and far removed from real life they just do and live as they please.
r.
Atheletes should only be role models based on the things they do to help others. Did I enjoy watching Vlade Divac play BBall? Sure. But I'm far more impressed w/ his humanitarian work w/ refugees in Europe. When Katrina happened, he had a donation drive, and drove the truck from Sacramento to New Orleans. Many Atheletes (and others) do these kinds of thing when no one is looking, or because they can. Some don't.
I also don't understand the point that we suck when we expect a man in one of the most violent sports out there to act like a lamb off of the field, and idolize these people. Anybody get beat up by football players in HS, and have it ignored by the faculty because the players made $$$ for the school? Yeah, me too.
If you are looking for an NFL player to teach your kids "morals" you are in trouble.
Word.

I saw this happen. The cheerleader/gymnast girls didn't treat "lesser" girls any better.
Those are violent in there own way. Far more girls are permanently injured, parylized, killed etc. every year in gymnastics than in mens boxing. Not to mention osteoporosis, dysmenorrhea, etc.
Who sucks? Us?
Athletes aren't role models to most people. They're highly paid entertainers. Beyond violent entertainment, they offer nothing of value to society.
Sports teams are billion dollar businesses and decision-making is based upon making money. I won't be the least bit surprised if this a-hole returns to work.
And there are many other A-holes in sports that have been let back in, 007, ones who have shot PEOPLE, etc. In many countries. So why focus just on AMFootball?
