I'm new here and was born into the "truth", can someone please tell me how long or how many people know about the association that the jw's had with the UN? And how come they even joined in the first place? I'm so confused and shattered.

yes it is shattering to see the edifice come tumbling down.

I only found out about the UN involvement a couple of years ago. Active Jehovahs witnesses are quick to accept the "library card explanation" as they don't want to have to think much further than what the WTS says. Fair enough - but most of us on here were prepared to be shattered and take the consequences.

Thanks to everyone for your replies, they are helpful. The sites that were sent helped. I can't believe not alot of jw's know about this and I guess no-one will be able to tell them as it would be wrong to speak against them.

Hi etna. I was pretty deep in as an elder and missionary. It pissed me off for solid week.

Might I suggest doing what I didn't do, and open up about your feelings here or somewhere else? There is a reason why these boards exist, and it isn't because of what the Governing Body says they are here for. They are here for real people who discover the hypocrisy and lies that exist. And it hurts to find that out, to say the least.

You are right that to talk about this exposes you to real risks of being disfellowshipped if you don't blindly accept their library card explanation. Of course, what makes this stink to high heaven is that tens of thousands were brutalized, raped, and murdered in Malawi in the 60's and 70's because the GB said it would violate their neutrality to have one of those "political" ID cards. Interestingly, I learned after I left that Malawi was a 1 party state, and that those political cards could be viewed as a state ID. (I am getting pissed just typing this.... )

So now, one of the wild beasts of Revelation 17, that they say is directly prophesied and condemned for destruction, well, its ok for them to break their own rules that was the catalyst for tens of thousands of deaths and join the UN.

Talk about pissing on the graves of devoted and misled people. All for the convenience of the Governing Body.

It is indeed a blow to find out this information. And yes, after years, most JWs don't even know it happened. The WTBTS joined the UN as NGO, evidently even contacting this body in the first place. There was no coersion of any kind. They give whatever reason for it they wish, and the rank and file must swallow it. But if you dare ask about it, you could be labeled apostate.

Thanks for the links, Baba Yaga. I had read them quite a long time back, but it is good to review this issue from time to time, and so good for the new ones to find out about.

It is still an incredulous thing.
