They only call when someone in the family dies or there is some other sort of "family emergency".

He was a construction worker who installed insulation most of his life.
The Doctors say he will likely die within a year.
Not sure what to think about this... I'm still quite pissed at my parents for the way they have treated me.

Do you think in spite of all the Paradise talk that he is afraid?
Maybe you can say something to comfort him or at least be with him and visit for awhile.
You might find that when you see him, the past will melt away.
Wow, that must have been something. My first reaction would probably be, Oh and now you want my help after shunning me for so long? How confused you must feel. I'm so sorry about your dad's illness.

I'm so sorry to hear this. I had an uncle die from this disease lat year, and from what I heard, it's not an easy passing. Please consider your actions carefully for both of your sakes.

My grama gave me the best advice years ago when I was in a difficult situation.
She said "Don't do anything that you can't go back and change."
I had to swallow my pride and do what was right, even though it was the hardest thing to do. And to this day, I have no regrets. I did my part.
What I mean is, if you don't even try to make some kind of peace with your father now, there may come a time when you regret that decision and you won't be able to go back and change it. Don't burn any bridges.
