See how they behave in modern-day Iran, Iraq, etc: the open, publicly-accepted savagery, brutality, subjugation of women, the tribal fighting. Now imagine if the leaders of those tribes and "nations" wrote their own holy book. ---> That's what the Old Testament is.
This Bible passage has always bothered me.......

11 If two men are fighting and the wife of one of them comes to rescue her husband from his assailant, and she reaches out and seizes him by his private parts, 12 you shall cut off her hand. Show her no pity. (Deuteronomy 25:11,12 NIV)
Isn't the Bible wonderful. Oh, and before telling me that Jesus came to replace these abominations, let me remind you that if Jesus is God and he preexisted before his birth, that he as God inspired this law.

Am I missing something here? After the Levite chopped up his concubine, he stated in Chap. 20 verse 5 that the homosexuals were trying to kill him. But Chap. 19 verse 22 says that they just wanted to "have sex with him". Soo... didn't he LIE??

At least they're not hypocritical about it!

My thoughts: There are a lot of crap scriptures. Genesis is full of lies--including creation of the Original Sin scam so Jehovah can usurp people's time and resources and control them for nothing. Many books include stock prayer answerings, perhaps totally made up or embellished (the Bible has the burden of proof that they were actually there and accurate). These were put there solely so Jehovah doesn't have to do a damn thing today to make us happy today--He can instead direct us to the Unholy Bible to these verses, demand us to praise Him for those answerings, and not lift a finger to help us today.
And, most of the Bible (the Old Testament is particularly bad in this regard) only proves that God is nothing more than an Almighty Lowlife Scumbag (the crap He does today also proves it). Demanding absolute obedience from beings that are capable of making better independent decisions is only the start. Setting up Cain and Saul for disapproval is another example. Demanding sacrifice, setting Saul so he could not win (either offer the damn sacrifice and go down for that, or fail to offer the sacrifice and get written up as unfaithful), and taking people's land because they didn't worship Him are other examples of God's tyranny. Nimrod's sin? Building a tower so he could build a God-free society that would have been superior to a Goddy society. And destroying homosexuals simply because they are gay? --God had no right to do that. Yet He proudly did it--Sodom and Gomorrah.
Other crap I found in the Bible include accepting Tyrant David (murdering tens of thousands of innocent foreigners simply for not worshiping Jehovah), demands for better sacrifices (Malachi), Hezekiah getting robbed of about 30 years of life by Jehovah so He could "return" 15 of them and receive praise for that (and not lambasting for stealing the other 15 and not returning them), the blatant sexism found throughout the whole Bible (except what Jesus himself directly taught), and the advice that does not work.
The Bible lies.

Farkel mentioned Numbers 31 and wrote:
"What possible reason would Moses (through the wishes of Jehovah) want to do this? So the Israelite men could have tiny little sex slaves in their possession, that's why. Otherwise, Moses wouldn't have been so crystal clear just what kind of little girls to save and what kind to slaughter."
The reasoning (not that I agree) was that, since it was Midianite women who played the major role in seducing Israelite men, they were to be killed, along with men (who would of course be engaged in battle) and boys (who might eventually want to avenge the loss of their parents).
Moses was ticked off because, initially, the Israelite men spared the Midianite women, who were considered as much a future danger (through seduction of apparently spirtually spineless Israelite men) as Midianite men (via war) would be. The younger virgin women, on the other hand, were evidently more malleable and easily subjugated.

Ugh. The Bible (and in particular the old testament) is violent and pornographic, not suitable reading material for true Christians.
Perhaps that's why JWs like it so much?

Hah. Only in the "theocratic" nations. The ones that run a sort of sham-democracy are hypocritical about it.
