Jeff, have you considered a Universalist church? You get all the morals, ritual and fellowship without the superstition or conformity.

Actually blue canary, I went to one for several weeks in a row. Because they are democratic and each church is very different, (which I think is cool) I also found it left me a bit cold. One week, the topic was about Darwin and someone's visit to the Galapagos Islands. I enjoyed it and the people, but it didn't do anything for me...
I haven't given up on the UU though..,

This is kinda where I'm at:

Though I do like to use Jesus' teachings to prove a point from time to time with so-called Christians...

I am still trying to establish where I stand. I really want to believe in a creator, I want someone out there to care about us and sort out the sh*t we have got ourselves into. The thing is I don't think there is, so I read deabtes about doctrine and dogma with a degree of academic interest but see it as pontification.
I believe as humans we have the intellectual capacity to get ourselves out of the aforementioned mess, searching for solutions is IMHO for more constructive. What can we do as individuals to make things better. How we can individually and collaboratively influence decision makers to improve things.
Having spent 42 years expecting God to sort things out has meant that I haven't been making the contribution I should have been. I am now resolved to do what I can. Being a Christian, a Muslim, a Hindu or whatever isn't going to make any difference.

Church is like the icing on the cake, you don't need it, but if its the right type for you, it can make something great, all the better.
But church is NOT for everyone.

Can I get an 'amen' from the congregation?

Yeah, I went to the UU church once. It was nice. But I am too, too introverted to enjoy leaving the house and sitting with a crowd of people for anything less than a Jeff Dunham performance.

LOL. Well, I crossed Lewis Black off my bucket list this year. Jim Gaffigan is next...

What if Walter was there to tell you to "get your crap and get out" or if Achmed was there to "KEEL you"...would that help?

I saw Lewis Black a year or so ago...he was great...

I think if you are going to attend a Church, you have to be honest and say that it contains an element of error.
The chief and first error, is not dogma or doctrine, but organizing into a Church in the first place, with rules and a clergy of some sort etc.
After that you can identify the error in belief within that church.
But having said that, if going along fills some need in you, then why not? please do not give up your freedom of thought and conscience that you have recently gained by leaving the Dubs. It is easy to replace one load of shite with another.

ps my definition of Agnostic is not the Wicki one, but "without knowledge" in other words ,we have not been presented with facts that convince us about God, not that he ultimately is un-knowable.
