In NYC, there's a crackdown on anyone that drives while using a hand held phone. They say it's dangerous to have only one hand on the wheel. I wonder if drive thru establishments like McDonald's and Dunkin Donuts will be next.

No.
But I do drive a lot with only one hand on the wheel - the other is on the gearshift.

No I do not.
Just yesterday a woman driving a van full of kids nearly ran into me because she was talking on the phone. I was able to get out of her way quick enough,..........but she never did put the phone down.
I have had this happen several times.
I like the bumper sticker that says,
" bet you would drive a lot better with that phone up your ass."

I don't use one while driving. That's not to say I haven't ever but my rule of thumb is if I'm driving the phone stays put away.
I hate cellphone use while driving. Most people who talk on the phone while driving become worse drivers than they already were. They aren't looking in their mirrors, they aren't looking down the road. They are not prepared to make quick decisions and quick movements.
My wife says she's multi-tasking. I say that driving in and of itself is multi-tasking. It takes eye to hand to foot to brain coordination. You have to process lots of information in milliseconds and react quickly to ever changing situations. Being distracted on a phone, limits your capacity to do those things.
It's amazing to watch people how they don't think nothing of using a phone while driving. Sit in a parking lot and watch people come and go. People will get in their cars, start the engine, put on the seatbelt, start backing out and then make a call. Why the hell not make the call, get that out of the way and then drive?
I watched a girl try to back into a parking space while talking on a cell phone. After hitting two parked cars, she gave up and pulled into another spot straight in. She went in the store never even looking at the damage she did. Of course being the pot-stirrer I am, I left notes on each of the hit cars windshield with what happened, her descrption, her car description and license number and my info.
Cell phone use while driving...one of my pet peeves, can't ya tell?

No!
People who do,are usually crappy drivers to begin with..
They don`t pay attention to traffic lights..
Drive 30Mph under the speed limit on the freeway, then wander into your lane..
It`s a Frigg`in Nightmare..

being caught gassing on your mobile while at the wheel in the UK seems to be a more serious crime then child abuse/rape or murder.

Yeah I do, and it pisses people off who I talk to because I pay so little attention to who I am talking too !
I guess its better that way then the reverse.
