  Jesus chose the WTS in 1919 yes? and then:

  What unique teachings did they have in 1919 that they still hold to be true today?

  Bethel boy may try some or all of these answers:

  no hellfire, no immortal soul, no trinity - all Unitarian or Adventist beliefs http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seventh-day_Adventist_Church (not surprising given the JW roots in Adventism - Google George Storrs)

  preaching work - so why are other religions growing - how do they get new members? what exactly was the preaching work about in the leadup to 1919? didn't the JW's have numerous failed predictions of the end of the world at that time? was Jesus telling them porky pies?

  Here's my view of what you've described.

  The elder lied to you, in order to remove barriers. He's a Bethelite and knows exactly what the Society teaches about the name Jehovah and accepts it. He sees you as a likely convert because so many of your family members are already in. He's got reason to believe that; you made it clear you don't agree with him, yet you accepted a study.

  A bible Study with JWs is not a 'study.' it is an indoctrination. When it became clear you weren't going to be indoctrinated, he removed as many barriers as possible - even if it meant lying to you.

  He hasn't come back because he realizes it's not the way you are going to be brought in. He doesn't see you as a challenge. He just doesn't want to waste time arguing and compromising with you. He is counting on your family to induct you in time.

  None of these arguments put forth in this thread are going to do much good. You cannot reason with JWs. You can only reach them when they experience the lack of love for themselves, and only then can you possibly reach them on that topic. If he feels loved in the organization, there is no argument any of us can come up with that will kill the borg in him. It only makes them stronger.
