I remember being convinced that The End ® was going to arrive in 1986 after looking at one of our Australian $1 coins and seeing "International Year of Peace" on the front of it.

"And Sudden Destruction will be upon them....."

They stopped talking about it because this "sudden destruction" has been delayed for several decades.

What happened to peace and security? September 11, 2001.

Since that day, we have been on high guard against terror. We have been in two major wars in the Middle East, and there are numerous other threatened wars. The Second Great Depression began in 2007 (though officially, it is only a recession), and is still deepening (again, they are lying) with threatening hyperinflation. We have a fake pandemic of Scam Flu (you will probably get something that is indistinguishable from regular flu if you get swine flu). All of which causes people to panic.

If people are in a state of panic, they are obviously not thinking peace and security. If they had to wait for peace and security, that would mean all these issues would have to be solved--which, with the depth of the Depression we are in, is going to take a good 20 years or more to completely fix. They don't want people thinking the end is another 20 years away, because they would start goofing off (people would even get disfellowshipped on purpose because they think they have another 20 years to go). So, by dropping the peace and security, they can keep the end within the two-year window that appears to be their comfort zone.

Any group wants the next new thing. Then, those things come and go. I was thinking of MLB stadiums that are built to increase excitement and attendance. They are often dubbed engineering marvels. Then, when they get 20 years old and the fan base is shrinking... they knock them down and start over (Cincinnati, Pittsburgh etc.) Think about all the better mouse traps that have failed (metric system in the US) JWs are no different. They just want spice in their hum-drum existence since there is little new under the sun. Most concepts are temporary.

One brochure came out in the early 90s that pointed out that "SAYING" peace and security, could also be translated "TALKING " about peace etc.

It then said that the end would come when the attention of the political rulers is focussed on "Peace and security." Since it was written just after the 1st gulf war, they must have been trimming their sales to the prevailing political climate (they have done it before)

The use of qoutes and an exclamation mark in the verse is actually an interpretation of the text in my view. It is also done in other Bibles.

that was the height of my Dub life during this period, it was also mentioned in a book study,(cant remember the book) , and everyone was talking about it, but like all the failed prophecies from the WTS it just passed like a wet fart really, add it to the list, not one single prophecy they have predicted has come true, and they call sites like this apostate, LOL

"And Sudden Destruction will be upon them....."

    upon whom ?

the Bible answer : "upon the false christs "

    why ?

because they are teaching false teachings in the name of God and keep saying that only so (by obeing them) the men/people will have peace with God !

    --- absolutely false !

so, they deserve destruction from God's hand !

Agreed with Blondie, except to add that, in reality, it went the way of 1975. In other words think of "New Light". The second best invention Jehovah's Witnesses ever created. It is a way of ignoring the past and focusing on the future, i.e., the latest nonsensical rubbish to keep The Great Unwashed busy.
