:but I agree with the being more restrictive on what you can and can't do.

In many ways the JW religion is much like our Government. The more freedoms you let them take from you, the more freedoms they will want to take and will take.

There are only two proven ways to stop the stranglehold the WT Cult has on its members:

    1) Devastate their cash flow.

    2) Members continue to vote with their feet.

The WT religion has been getting away with murder against its members for eight decades. Trying to "reform" this religion through quiet discussion, negotiation or reasoning is not going to happen. Those who think it is are deluded dreamers.

Ok - I know I am going out on a limb here, but I think they will be trashed and on the dustbin of history. The next six years are going to be momentous in terms of religious information being disseminated...religious history - already there's TV shows like Decoding Christianity, etc. With increased information comes increased awareness of cultish groups on the fringes of 'mainstream' religion. After Christianity, Judaism and Islam have been dissected, there will be more and more info on the wackier groups and they will have to 'come clean' in terms of their history, teachings, etc.

Any outfit that claims to be religious AND charitable in nature, but has a difficult time showing its charity, will be in for a lot of scrutiny. Government tax laws are tightening up. Courts are looking at more and more conflict of interest and human rights issues and will inevitably tighten the screws further. In so many areas, I believe that the WT corporation will have to definitely shape up, or ship out. As everyone pretty much agrees, reform with this group is impossible, so the END IS NIGH! Bring it on.

As an aside, I just saw the new Morm8n ad on TV the other night. Real feel-good with the offer of a free KJV Bible to anyone that called their 1-800 number! No mention at all of the Book of Morm8n - blatant in its omission. Most people, I would daresay, would notice the fact that they did not include a free Book of Morm8n with the offer and inwardly scream 'cult'! But, as a defunct JW, I couldn't help admire them for their advertising acumen; at least they hold out that they're going to be giving answers that will make people 'feel better'. Unless JWs start revamping their message, they are DOOMED.

Not to argue with you scotinsw, but i predict the WT will finally come to the conclusion that it is better to loose some pioneers to increase the size of the collection. Cash is what they need, not "busy bodies." The Mormons send out missionaries all over the world and yet it is ok to be a Doctor or Lawyer or sucessful businessman. College is needed for this type of member. The Mormons own Colleges and Universities and are active in the Arts.

Arranged marriages. Yes, I know this actually happens now within the JWs, but I think it'll become more enforced where daughters will be promised to elders. Marrying anyone "worldly" is an disfellowshipping offense. I'm sure they'll find many scriptures to twist to make this official.

So what is it now 2009, so that is 6 years in the future; so what was it like in 2003 and the last six years.

    The differences are pretty stunning:

-- One less Awake per month

-- 2 versions of Watchtower, "public" and "study"

-- Public talks shortened to 30 minutes

-- Book studies in homes completely eliminated

-- Book study, school, and service meeting all shortened to fit into one night

-- Thousands of Bethelites "laid off" and sent to the "field"

-- Buildings in Brooklyn sold off, land for a new Bethel complex bought

-- Huge changes in doctrine: the heavenly calling didn't end in 1935 after all, the definition of a "generation" changed (yet) again, much stronger delineation of the difference between the "faithful and discreet slave" and the "Governing Body"

Given the glacial rate of change over the preceding 6 decades or so, to squueze in all of the above in just 6 years is pretty amazing.

    I love all these speculations.

Folks, these guys are not going NOWHERE!!!

Yeah they might change some things here and there, but we won't see a mass exodus anytime soon. At least not in our lifetime.

Wha Happened?: what about 2045 parakeet?

I think I covered that when I wrote, ".... as long as there are fools who believe them."

cancelling the preaching work has to be high on the list

It would provide a major boost to the JW's on many levels and it would provide an end-times prophecy fulfilment opportunity without having to set a date.

It would also help them get around the status of rank and file beling linked to the Borg as representatives needing Health & Safety training and Public Liability Insurance cover

In its place they could say to the hard core just do whatever the spirit moves you to do - the true believers would still be out there.....

Stopping reporting hours, placements and publisher numbers would also provide a handy cover to mask the shrinking membership (or at the very least the fact that its rapidly becoming a 3rd world religion)

    Just a thought...
