One of my favorites is Little Women. The version with Susan Sarandon and Winona Ryder. I think there are other versions, but I haven't seen them.
I remember loving to read warm and happy family stories. Some of these were Little Women and Little House on the Prarie. These books fed my soul. As a little JW girl, who knew the joy of Christmas before I had to make my stand...I savored these Christmas celebrations that the books spoke about. I craved the closeness and serenity of their families. I lived through them. They healed my heart and opened up my mind to a better way of life.
This movie version has such loveable characters. I think they did a great job of casting.The scenery and homes that were used are just beautiful. They really take you to another time and place. The love and emotion come through and no matter how times I watch it, I will cry. I always do. But it is the refreshing type. The emotions of love and tenderness are always there. And I always feel like I am refreshed to try and be a better person.
I lost my copy of the DVD and just had to repurchase it. It is one of the best.
Other favorites are: Pride and Prejudice (I have two versions of this)
ELF...Will Ferrell and Christmas...enough said! I never saw it unitl we left JW land...it's now a christmas favorite! We watch it about 3 or 4 times a year!

I agree with so many above. Couldn't possibly name an all time fave. A few that come to mind and why:
Scary, chilling atmosphere:
Alien, Best Space Ship Science fiction ever.
Blade Runner, Best futuristic world ever created. (also by Ridley Scott)
Das Boot, If you're not claustrophobic you will be. (I prefer the subtitled version).
Invasion of the Body Snatchers, 50's version. The JW similarities are dead on creepy. (The movie was actually based on communism.)
Westerns:
The Big Country. maybe my all time #1. Burl Ives party crashing speech won him an Academy Award. Directed by Wm. Wyler just before he made Ben Hur.
The Unforgiven. Eastwood at his best in front of the camera and behind it.
Monte Walsh. Solid cowboy entertainment with a sweet edge that always gets me. Jean Moreau and Lee Marvin were perfect.
The Wild Bunch. Gritty and real.
The Appaloosa. Good basic western with an unusual twist.
Comedy:
Almost anything by Laurel and Hardy and the Marx brothers.
Death at a Funeral. Brought me to tears. I'm a sucker for British humor.
I generally enjoy the 'spoof' movies like Airplane, etc.
Miscellaneous
Most of the Coen brothers movies, Fargo, Oh Brother Where Art Thou? etc.
