I also think Shawshank is one of the best I've ever seen. Forest Gump is my favorite though. The reason being that if every human being had his outlook and philosophy on life, we really would have peace on earth.

I like all the old Bette Davis horror flicks - Whatever Happened to Baby Jane? and Hush, Hush Sweet Charlotte.
But my favourite is All About Eve. Awesome story line.

A Room with a View, (wonderful acting, soundtrack and writing), Howard's End and Remains of the Day, (great acting and writing), Summer in Smoke, (the least melodramatic work of Tennessee Williams), To Kill a Mockingbird, (a classic), Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, (funny, well written and directed), Mystic River, (devastatingly sad and dark)

Thanks for reminding me Out at last about Braveheart and Full Metal Jacket! Without a doubt, the first 20 minutes of FMJ is probably the funniest yet frightening piece of film that I can recall...R. Lee Ermey was absolutely brilliant as the DI and Vincent D'Onofrio was downright scary in his transformation from buffoon to psychotic zombie.

I was about to post my comment but I'm glad some mentioned "Everything is Illuminated". As a former JW it has some nostalgia.
Too many favorites but here's my first mention. Slingblade. The storyline is great but so is what is behind the movie. BBT wrote John Ritters part for him. Invited non actors for major roles. That movie never gets old.
