Iran Tells the UN Where to Shove It
The Iranian government approved a plan Sunday to build 10 industrial scale uranium enrichment facilities, a dramatic expansion of the program in defiance of U.N. demands it halt enrichment.
The decision comes only days after the U.N. nuclear watchdog agency censured Iran over its program and demanded it halt the construction of a newly revealed enrichment facility.
Iran's state news agency IRNA says the government ordered the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran to begin construction of five uranium enrichment sites that have already been studied and propose five other sites for future construction.
The decision was made during a Cabinet meeting headed by President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad Sunday evening, IRNA said. -

"If true, this would be yet another serious violation of Iran's clear obligations under multiple UN security council resolutions, and another example of Iran choosing to isolate itself. The international community has made clear that Iran has rights, but with those rights come responsibilities. As the overwhelming IAEA board of governors vote made clear, time is running out for Iran to address the international community's growing concerns about its nuclear program."

And yet nothing will happen but a bunch of finger wagging. The Iranians know Obama is not serious about stopping them from getting nukes and that he is a lightweight. Obama's need to be liked and prove that he understands and appreciates them does not translates into them cooperating with him. As is the case with just about every other country and their government in which sure they "like" him alot but they are simply going to continue doing what is in their national interest whether that is also in our interest or not. Its one of those things we all learn at some point when we are put in charge of something, its nice to be liked, but it doesn't get the job done. The Iranians will continue to build nuclear weapons, and probably already have some. This will then make the other ME countries feel threatened and they will be pushed to develope their own to protect the balance of power in the region. I am concerned this will further corner Israel and only make a military conflict more likely. There have been quite a few strategic events which some analysts point to which also see as pushing the likelyhood even further up.

Hello all, so much interesting info. Do you remember how, as JW's we all looked forward to the "end", armageddon?
We weren't afraid of it's "so,so near" approach, we wanted it, the sooner the better (nutty). Well, I believe that these
Iranians are as fanatical about their beliefs as are JW's, they don't fear "Al-Malhamah Al-Kubrah" (armageddon) any more
than JW's fear it.
When people are hurting,suffering, they long for the end to come and for "God's kingdom" to come and bring paradise. I
believe these Moslems believe armageddon will occur in the vicinity of Syria, Damascus specifically, and that the Messiah
will return at that time at which time He will destroy the unbelieving armies of Gog og Magog (the western powers) and
restore peace and brotherhood to the planet.
So, remembering how I used to think as a JW, I think Iranians are thinking, BRING IT ON, we want armageddon to start, NOW!
So, how do you deal with such a people? They also expect persecution from enemies of their faith, even death. Damned if you
attack them, damned if you don't. Now, since I don't believe the end of the world is just around the corner, I think something,
some action, should take place soon, by the U.N., all the nations of the world, not a particular country.

Hillary Clinton Slams Iran as Major Exporter of Terror
With signs of growing international support for pressure on Iran, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton lashed out at Tehran and the Revolutionary Guard military corps Friday, calling the country "the major supporter, promoter and exporter of terrorism in the world today."
Clinton, responding to a question from a Latin American audience at the State Department about growing Iranian influence in Latin America, said Iran's Revolutionary Guard "is increasing its control over the country because of the elections which were a stark example of the abuse of human rights in action."
The Revolutionary Guard, she said, "is deeply involved in the economy as well as the security issues of Iran. And I think if people want to flirt with Iran, they should take a look at what the consequences might well be for them, and we hope that they will think twice, and we are going to support them if they do."
Clinton said she was "well aware" of Iran's interest in promoting itself with a number of other countries, naming Venezuela and Bolivia specifically.
"We can only say that, that is a really bad idea for the countries involved," she said.
Clinton's comments came on the same day Defense Secretary Robert Gates told U.S. troops in Iraq, "I think you are going to see some significant additional sanctions imposed by the international community" against Iran.
Thursday at the United Nations, the United States and other countries strongly criticized Iran for not complying with U.N. Security Council resolutions and accused it of shipping arms and ammunition to Syria.
The European Union has said it would support action by the U.N. Security Council if Iran continues to refuse to cooperate with the international community over its nuclear program. "The European Union stands ready to take the necessary steps," the EU said in a statement.
In September Iran revealed the existence of a previously secret nuclear facility it had been building. It has allowed U.N. inspectors to visit that facility.
Iran also is refusing to abide by a proposed compromise with the U.N.'s atomic energy agency to ship most of its low-enriched uranium out of the country for reprocessing. Such a step would not leave enough nuclear material in Iran for the Iranians to build a nuclear weapon, according to those involved in the proposal.
Iran insists its nuclear program is strictly for peaceful purposes.

Iran Test-Fires Its Most Advanced Missile
Iran announced Wednesday that it had test-fired an improved version of its most advanced missile capable of reaching Israel and parts of Europe, in a move that appeared aimed to discourage a military attack on its nuclear sites and to defy Western pressure over its nuclear program.
The announcement provoked immediate rebukes from the White House and leaders in Europe, and appeared likely to intensify pressure from the United States and other Western powers to impose tougher economic sanctions on Iran.
A White House spokesman told Reuters that the test undermined Iran’s claims that its nuclear program is peaceful, and said it would “increase the seriousness and resolve of the international community to hold Iran accountable” for its provocations.
The British prime minister, Gordon Brown, said the missile test “does make the case for us moving further on sanctions,” according to the Associated Press.
