Does anybody know if they still have that special song that used to always be used at the memorial?

Ideally, the Society would like to revise the songbook every ten years. From the time revision begins to release is approximately 13 years (i.e., 1969 to 1982 for the last songbook). Translation new songbook lyrics is daunting. The reason the new songbook took longer than this is that many language groups did not have the New World Translation in their language and priority had to be given to Bible translation.

The many songs that were cut were judged to be inferior musically and lyrically. One of the manifestations of this is that they were hard to sing--even for professional singers.

For more detail on this, please see DNCall Unmasked, Parts I through V.

Another aspect may be that pirates eventually are caught with the goods.

My wife and I went to a band competition the other night. One of the school bands was a religious school. Half the music sounded like we were at a district convention. We looked at each other and actually sang the 'Kingdom lyrics' for a minute to one of the songs [that about gagged us]. Other than the very last few notes, that song appeared in the 'old' songbook, the one they are replacing. I don't recall what song it was now, and I never knew the name of the hymm the band was playing. But they were one and the same.

Musical plagarism might be part of the reason. Lawyers run the publishing house these days ya' know.

It could be that both were using that tune because it was no longer under copyright.

Erm, wouldn't that have resulted in all 225 songs being dropped?

Jehovah’s Witnesses think the song Amazing Grace" is pagan, they are nuts, it is completely scriptural. What a bunch of buffoons.

The WTS doesn't like it because it depicts everyone going to heaven. I love the song myself.

Yes years back in the 40s they used to sing: "Belly Up To The Bar Boys".

Well for heaven’s sake, no one knows for sure who will go to heaven until that person is dead and see's St. Peter.
