Was there not a major homosexual scandal that broke in NY Bethel sometime around the 1970s era? IIRC, no real announcement took place but it was pretty much telegraphed all over in the gossip mill.
Our CO said that the official reasons were put into the DF files as either Covetousness or Idolatry. I think somewhere around a dozen or more were rooted out.
Questions: is it possible that here we find the roots of the dismissal of Greenlees? I remember a thread here of a new bethel guy suddenly being shocked to find he was assigned as roommate to Greenlees...
Does anybody know anything about former elder school instructor Randall Davis? I had him along with Schroeder 1970 - and I can tell you, if this guy was not a latent homosexual, he certainly could have played one on TV. Think of the late actor Paul Lynde trying to overact the part. I heard somewhere that he too was sort of "sent off to be a special pioneer" like Greenlees.

Back around 1969 or 1970 there was a young brother who was sent home DFd from Bethel after a year of his four year hitch. I had come into the Congregation shortly after he came back. After his year of DFing he was reinstated and I got to know him pretty well. He was a very fun, normal guy to me.
I asked some of the other guys if they knew why he was DFd at Bethel and they said they "thought" it was for homosexuality, but no one knew for sure. Even so that stigma stayed with him. Anyway, this guy got married a year or so after he was reinstated and looked and acted just like any other married hetero guy. In all the several years of time I spent in that Congregation before I finally faded, there was nothing to indicate this guy was gay. Personally, I don't think he was. He may have experimented with it or not. He may have been railroaded. Who knows but himself? History has shown that when the Watchtower conducts its witch hunts, they don't always crucify just the witches
Of course, his "career" in WatchtowerLand(tm) was over. Back then, if one returned from Bethel before serving the full four years, and much more so if one returned from Bethel with the big scarlet "DF" on his forehead, he wouldn't even be able to carry a mic for at least 20 years.
I hope he finally got out of sewer as I did.

Farkel, what I have wondered several times over was whether some of that scandal with the younger guys at Bethel was not sort of manufactured to cover up things that went higher up. For example, I never heard a word about Greenlees or the other guy that was removed while I was a witness - only afterwards from ex-witnesses and then later here on this board.
I can confirm personally from a 1971 conversation with Ed Dunlap (registrar at Gilead at the time) that he was deeply disturbed (and not a little suspicious) of the Freddy Franz sauna parties.
I simply cannot imagine how the Society ever thought they could coop up this many young men at Bethel, work them like dogs, absolutely forbid them social contact with the opposite sex, and then somehow not expect that some kind of homosexual contact was going to occur - at least in a significant percentage of cases.
For what it is worth, there was also a carefully hidden case of an active Circuit Overseer back in that time (late 60s or early 70s) who was molesting young boys.

He would take them out in service, warn them that you could get various kinds of VD from toilet seats, and then inform them that he was a male nurse and would examine them to be sure they were "OK". Get the picture? This was told to me by another CO, (now deceased) Dave Wetzler. I do not know the name of the perp.

There is probably nothing anymore than can shock me about the JW religion, even your story about the CO molester.
Although it can not be proven, the late Pat Garza's story about being raped/molested by Ted Jaracz when he was a CO wouldn't even shock me if it was found to be true.
I've been swimming around in the WT sewer too long and all the shit now smells pretty much the same. If one has been around that much shit for that length of time, it is pretty hard to get shocked about anything.

But no, I wouldn't be surprised if a GB member commited murder, since they've all already done that with their ban on blood and their hypocritical stance in Malawi. Yawn.
