:Should JW's read the Bible ?

Why? They never follow it when they do read it.

deputy, a JW may counter that they were the first to 'restore' the Divine name. This is not correct either. The ASV came out in 1901 and insterted the name Jehovah into the OT 6963 times, or so. The WT is not even a pioneer in putting the Divine name into the NT- as they themselves state they looked for agreement in the Hebrew versions of the NT when doing so.

Wasn't one of the charges in the Bethel purge that some of the "apostates" were actually reading and studying JUST the Bible on their own - without benefit of the society literature?

They actually have a deep-seated fear of independent Bible reading apart from the controlled context of watchtower literature.

Yikies - the tribes might actually catch some of the contextual meaning of certain favorite single verses...

They already do. That's why I ask them my question. They aren't the first and they couldn't even get Yahweh straight.
