Someone locally that apparently was in the air force here, did a calculation and said if the kid was in there, it would be impossible to reach some of the heights it did.
I hope thats true, or at least it may help figure out when or if the kid dropped. I'm one of those people that likes resolution either way.
Elswhere was right. They found the kid hiding in the attic in a box.

Thats good to hear. I figured a child of a scientist [or someone that works in related areas] would have a bit more saftey knowedge than to play with such an expensive "toy" ...and helium doesn't give THAT much lift.
Hope he doesn't get into too much trouble over it. I think if I was one of his parents, after nobody being in the balloon, I would be so releived I don't know if I could get mad. Heck I'd still be in shock.

I could be wrong, I don't think this thing passes the smell test. They've been on a couple of episodes of "Wife Swap," some other reality show and the Dad does some sort of paranormal investigation show. One of the first things he did was call a local TV station, supposedly to have them chase the balloon with their helicopter.
The boy just said on Wolf Blitzer "We did this for the show". And a few minutes later, Wolf asked the family for clarification and the dad got super defensive and said he was "appalled" at what CNN was insinuating, even though he was only asking for clarification of what the boy said.
Reality TV is just another step in the making of an idiocracy of society.
Anyone think that this event is instantly gonna be made into a South Park episode? I mean come on, little kids creating a huge media spectacle ... weird parents ... some UFO Jiffypop contraption ... the police and military getting involved ... and of course it all takes place in Colorado!
I bet Trey Parker and Matt Stone are writing the episode as we speak.

This father is using his kids for some purpose to do with publicity. He got several hours of free media footage of his prototype balloon. He ought to get an invoice from law enforcement and rescue forces.
