What do you think will happen to cause an exodus or at least push JWs into further obscurity?

    Difficult to say.

Other religions have slowly faded away as less and less people believe in the cause. While 1914 is their achilles heal, the GB is not stupid and is already, gradually, phasing out this teaching. I really don't know what it will take as so many people are hanging on for emotional reasons (family ties, the amount of time and energy invested in it, etc.).

I am still waiting for the new "Armageddon by [a certain date]" campaign. They have no real end date now and membership is fizzling. I can imagine them instituting the "This time we really mean it" slogan into their preaching work, hoping to get some money membership up. 2014 is way too soon, so I can imagine it being 2034, 120 years into the last days comparible to 120 years for mankind declared before the flood.

I know that sounds way off. Many of us will have lost our parents to the cult by then or grow old ourselves or see another generation of dubs grow up in this terrible cult. But it really would be a short time, and many would not really go along with the hype behind the money membership drive. I think we could make great headway revealing how they have done this before and were always wrong, will be wrong again. Maybe this kind of thing would backfire in their faces and some people would be shaken out.

Actually, I heard that there was some kind of announcement, either in literature or in a convention talk that the group that was associated with the first anointed group (ca. 1919) are the last generation of the anointed. So basically before those guys kick the bucket all hell will have broken loose. Anyone else know about this?

Also, how do I add an avatar image?

Just to clarify what I just wrote (realizing that it may not be clear) the new understanding is that anyone who knew the original 1919 anointed folks - THEY won't pass away.

Ah yes, someone posted their notes from the annual meeting of the JW's. Those are supposed to be some kind of board meetings to cover their being a corporation, but theirs are always about the mumbo jumbo of the "preaching work" and whatnot. The annual meeting notes included this claim by a GB member (Barr?) that the generation that saw the beginning of the last days would overlap with the generation that saw the end of the last days.

It's probably a trial balloon to see what speculation the talk causes. It isn't doctrine until they print it. By the time Summer rolls around, they will see what others might think about such a speculation and see if they can make it doctrine. This overlap nearly doubles the pre-1995 teaching of the 1914 generation. It sounds so crazy, but from a JW-point-of-view, it just might fly. We'll see (or with much negative response, we won't see.)

I'm curious to see how they could "scripturally" spin this into NuLight. It's like watching sausages get made--fascinating, yet repugnant.

the slowdown to a virtual standstill of the door to door work has already moved witnesses into obscurity. very very few people know even the very basics about witness beliefs, much less so that 20 or 30 years ago.

It's really nothing as big as people say. There just has to be one WELL-KNOWN work that outlines what it's like to be a Jehovah's Witness, why it's exactly like a cult and tells people in no uncertain terms easy to understand reasons WHY the religion is wrong. That's it!

The thing is right now they're thriving on their preaching work, like those preachers who blindside people who don't know about evolution and give them a bunch of false data on it. However if there was a general consensus something people could point to that was easily described and most importantly easily understood then their potential converts would dry up. That would lead to the downfall of the organization.

I wouldn't say a book per say, but a movie would probably be the best bet.

I think a GB group orgy picture with Fred Franz's oil painting overlooking would do the trick....

Nope. I do think it would just be a big shock but you can just see a WT article talking about how some in Bible times did likewise and were punished by God, such as the account of Balaam and once they have a scape goat the Society is scott free, they pass the blame and they keep on going their merry pharisaic way.
