If a gb member was caught smuggling drugs or something similiar for sake of argument,i wonder if it might some people thinking.
What do you think will happen to cause an exodus or at least push JWs into further obscurity?

There is a BIRTHDAY celebration coming up. Gods kingdom was born in 1914 so they say (and caused two major world wars)

I agree that the increased information that people in general have at their fingertips via the internet will eventually be the downfall of the borg. The increasing isolation by the GB of the faithful through discouragement of education, the forbidding of reading anything negative about the organization in any form or speaking with anyone who has been disfellowshipped has to be seen by the average person as the desperate act of a cult trying to preserve their membership. A comment was made above that when a bible study is finally started with an "innocent" - they quickly are informed by friends or family about the true nature of the religion and the study is lost. I'm so glad to hear it. My husband and I were recently disfellowshipped for apostasy. When I tell people at work that we have friends who have known us since we were children no longer speak to us, they are stunned. They think of JWs as being a backward, but benign, religion. When I explain the shunning policy that JWs have that extends to even the parent/child relationship, they are shocked. There has been some recent press about Scientology "disconnecting" family who disagree with the religion. This is ain't gonna fly in an enlightened, educated and informed western culture.

Billy the Ex-Bethelite
Another big enemy of Watchtower Corp. is, very simply, time. As each year and decade ticks by, they have to revise, rewrite, reinvent. They are getting worse at that every time they redefine "generation", revise their blood policy, rewrite their history, and reinvent their prophecies. Go back and read what they wrote in the 80s about "this generation", "the king of the north", and "the cry of peace and security". Now they need to scrap all of that and just say "armageddon soon". But, it just doesn't come. Which leaves the blind believers following the blind leaders, and hundreds of thousands that walk away.
And time keeps on slipping into the future, each year proving JWs wrong.
That makes for a slow departure with JWs moving into obscurity.
A mass exodus would likely be caused by failure within the organization. Internal rifts on dogma, perhaps "apostates" getting scapgoat treatment, or accounting mishaps, with financial disaster, are certainly possibilities that would cause bOrganization calamity, but such things are best left...

I have to admit, the increased availability of information on the Internet has certainly given me pause back when I was seriously considering whether or not I should become a witness. That and my own personal Bible study without WT literature. Reading about the 144,000 in Revelations and looking at what it literally says made me wonder how they can apply this to annointed witnesses. Researching on the Internet at some reputible Christian sites suggested that the 144,000 can be taken wholly figurative or wholly literal. I was taught the wholly literal part in the past. The WT seems to take the number literally and the tribes of israel figuratively and apply it to themselves mostly and a few apostles in the new testament.
That made me want to learn more about them from another point of view and I too had several "They said what?!" incidents, some of which I was able to verify.

The scandal could be something about the pedophiles issue. Perhaps, a celebrity like Prince or Serena Williams could announce some aweful discovery and it snowballs into an avalanche. Or the scandal could be about catching the Governing Body in some terrible act- sneaking a video recorder into their upper chamber and revealing something about the way they operate. Maybe they would be talking about manipulating things to make more money and fleece the flock.
The undercover video would also include all of the GB sitting around the table watching a flat screen tv in the corner and jacking off.

As far as a huge scandal- how about a GB pedophile is dismissed from Bethel, a different GB member and Gilead Instructor leave the organization and write books about how screwed up it is, the society predicts the end of all things on a specific calendar date and it doesnt come.
Oh yeah- all that stuff already happened- and here we are- with 5 million MORE witnesses than at that time....
Sorry- I dont see the end of this crazy group anytime soon- Just look at how long the Catholic Church has survived!!! Proof that crazy doesn't equal extinction.
