What're the new spins going to be?

I was talking with my wife and surmised that in ten years, there would be 'revision' in thought about blood, and that they would allow transfusions, (a conscience matter), but still forbid the eating of blood.

As to disfellowshipping, when it all hits the fan in the media, there may be a change, some time in the future regarding it. Perhaps they will say to only 'spiritually' disfellowship the person, but not encourage the total shunning of them.

Do those two hold any merit? Will there be changes at all?

What other things may change at the WTBTS? What new spins will they put on things to retain membership?

I could see gradual allowing of transfusions, as this could save the Society considerable legal trouble.

However, as to shunning, the courts have seemed to constantly uphold the right of the religion to make up such rules as to the conduct of its membership. I don't know that "hitting the fan" will have much impact in this area, not enough outsiders care, and not enough actual financial or physical damage is done simply by shunning. Most of the damage is emotional. (Financial harm could be argued, I suppose.)

Ash.....the blood issue is already a thing of the past! The posturing is that it is not....but you can take blood...and if it becomes public knowledge... it then becomes a judicial matter. If you are unrepentant...you are condsidered 'DA'd..not DF'd. Hey but how many elders are going to call it!? Its like the oral sex thing. Its not allowed but who calls it now? The elders don't want to know.

I don't think the WTS need to do a great deal. The WTS will say that any who refuse blood...do so by personal choice. I think the WTS lawyers can point to the relevant literature if required to do so.

I suppose my real question was, what do you guys think are going to be the issue in the forefront, that will be changed in the future? I just gave a couple of examples of what I've been thinking about lately.

Spinning is such an effortless exercize, really. Especially so when you're addressing an audience that presumes your forthrightness and strict adherance to truth.

Skilled debaters care not which side of an issue they are assigned to argue.

The Biblical speeches of Job's three "comforters" seem, at first glance, weighty and substantive.

What interests me more than the actual words of the spin is the driving forces behind that spin. More and more that force seems to be based on legal maneuvers designed to circumvent financial losses.

So then, child abuse cases may be up there. I read a thread earlier about the Anglican Church that's going out of business.

But, the WTBTS may find a way to skirt that one, by claiming that it's INDIVIDUALS, and not ordained ministers that were perpetuating the crime. No matter what it's infuriating.

Somedays I want a bit of revenge for what they've done to my wife. Other days, I just forget about it. It starts up again when I get a rude phone call from my in-laws, or harassment from the elders, or semi-shunning (we're not officially 'out') from old friends.

I just wonder what issue will be the next 'big' issue that they'll be using the old bait and switch damage control on.

I think that all of the really controversial issues will have to be resolved eventually. The Society has shown considerable resiliency over the years (Just look at how many times the leadership has cried wolf and still the sheep come running at the sound of the word!) and so I believe they will be here for a long time to come.

The blood transfusion issue is, as some have already pointed out, well on it’s way out. Unfortunately I suppose many more will die needlessly before it’s finally a thing of the past and just becomes one more embarrassment relegated to a past which will dim with time.

I see the shunning being quietly phased out in the written material but still pushed verbally by the C.O.’s for as long as possible. It’s a powerful control tool that will not be relinquished easily. The door to door work will be maintained for a long time still but with much few hours being put in by the R&F and I see them doing it with less enthusiasm than before and in time it will all but cease except on a very marginal basis.

I see the elder arrangement undergoing a change as well. I see the possibility of the ‘service committee’ (P.O., Sec, F.S.O.) having all the authority. Appointments of new elders will slow down and then stop unless some are being groomed to take over in other congregations. Eventually the old elders will be phased out and you’ll basically have only three elders in the congregation, what is now called the Service Committee. I think the Society is realizing just how many idiots are out there in elderland and how much they are costing them. They will tighten the requirements and concentrate on those three men.

I see women being given more consideration in the future as well. I’m surprised that this has not already begun. It’s only a matter of time before public pressure demands that from them. Remember they are very concerned about their public image now. Who would have thought, twenty years ago, that the Society would have a PR agency?! So look for sisters behind the magazine and literature counters, sisters appointed to handle the accounts (many do now but not officially!). They’ll be something of Ministerial Servantettes! (There are elderettes even now as we speak, but it’s strictly behind the scenes! ) Don’t look for them to open and close meetings with prayer just yet, however.

I'm sure they will keep on DFing with shunning for a long time. I suppose soon they'll say you only need to publish 1 minute a year to be active. That would help stats.

I think in the future they may bend on "non religious" holidays such as Thanksgiving. I mean 99% of witnesses all eat turkey on thanksgiving anyway.

The blood issue is one that wont go away. I suspect they will "define" it better soon.

They'll hold the line on Jesus not being God, on no immortal soul, and on the two-class system, heavenly and earthly. There'll be some shifting of understanding of who the heavenly class are, to keep them alive and in control. The former "anointed remnant" will be represented as God-fearing and sincere, but having serving God as best they were able with incomplete knowledge and consequent incorrect understandings.

Pretty much everything else will go by the wayside as they move toward the mainstream.

I agree, spinning doesn't help me exercise either. All it does for me is make me dizzy.
