Hi Ash, I am sorry for what the Society has done to your wife. I can relate to this one many levels. As for spin. I think the Abuse issue with Dateline and media coverage so hot ont thier heels, the Society will try to change some of their policies befor the show airs to make it look like they are not as bad as the media portrays them to be. I don't think it will do them any good however because unlike the rank and file, the public will see right through it and see the Watchtower for what it really is. The public are not blinded by Watchtower rhetoric and thought contol, games and coverups, and false promises. As for the shunning issue, I don't think that is going to change overnight because this is the Society's way of keeping the R&F under control, and those who leave from influenceing them. A sort of keeping the lid on thier pot of simmering lies and coverups.
What're the new spins going to be?

I kinda have a different idea about the borg's future spins. The one thing that keeps the wool over the R&F's eyes is not their manipulative use of the Bible, but it is their CREDIBILITY.
Because we are intering a new world of instant communication, lying coverups, (something the borg are talentted in ), can be broadcast within the hour. Those who want to expose deception within the borg 'cube' will have little trouble getting the media to 'run' with it.
I say this because the more people are interconnected the more "shared thoughts" the group will experience. This will force the borg "kings" to use their meetings and said media to counter embarrassing or damageing info.
The more they have to play 'cover up', the more they will lose face with the R&F, and also with potential 'drones'.
Mind you now, the borg masters WANT their religion to be mediocure and obscure, it's the best way to keep maximum control over a group so they can slowly rape the life out of said group. Like leeches. They don't need the 'world' knowing their dirty little secrets. But these mummies can't hold back time, technology, or the TRUTH.

LB funny you should mention thanksgiving.I remember being invited over to an elders house for a turkey dinner on thanksgiving with a bunch of other witneses.I was a little perplexed but when I got there I had a great time. They resoned why they did it by saying turkeys are cheep this time of year and we all have the day off so lets have some turkey.Birthdays are another "lets keep it secret" thing that witnesses celabrate. The two biggest sins that alot of jws do and not tell is sex and gambler. You would be surprised at how many jws you can find in casinos.

Hi Cornerstone, I used to think it was important to the R&F to believe in the Credibility of the Watchtower. But after my experience with them regarding the issue of Pedophilia and other WT coverups especially the UN issue, most R&F can't be bothered to research whether or not the Watchtower is Credible or not. They just want to believe it is the "truth" no matter what. The Watchtower can spin out any excuse to justify it's questionable actions and then blame "apostates" for making a big deal out of it and most R&F blindly agree and forget about it. If Credibility were the main concern of R&F they would have all left by now.

I expect there to be some spin on the role/position of thr remnant/FDS. After all the FDS as was....is elderly and virtually redundant, with all executive responsibilities being passed to a plethora of committees headed by great crowders. So does this mean that JC deals with the anointed or through the great crowd? Or both?
Soon all the old GB will be dead. Then what? Those at the top will know that the Borg is run by great crowders and need for spin to break the reality to the R+F.ISP

I agree with ISP that the whole FDS/Governing body thing is an issue that will have to be re-invented some time soon. I think this will be one of the more major and pressing changes that they face doctrinally.
Control in the congregations will have to be tightened to stop the influence of those who are "fading away".
Frenchy's comments regarding changes to the elder arrangement seem like a logical direction for them to be heading. It has to be acknowleged that bad elders are the reason why many leave.
The blood policy probably is in a "wait and see what happens next" mode.
The disfellowshipping policy will likely be more of an unwritten thing and more of an "understood" thing.
Something needs to be done with the large amount of meetings every week. Dropping one would be welcomed by nearly all.
Publishers are seeing the field service as the waste of time it is. Perhaps broadening out into some legitamate charitable activities to take advantage of those in need might be considered.
Perhaps switching the Watchtower and Awake magazines to monthly issues instead of bi-weekly will be considered as cost cutting measures. Few people read them anyway.
Bethel staff will likely be cut to bare bones at some point. Missionaries might be replaced with specially trained ones that will be sent to various places to ensure the Society's wishes and intents are carried.

I'm waving my hands over my crystal ball and softly humming................................................................................I see in the next 5 years the celebration of birthdays will become a concience matter but still frowned upon by the "stronger" witnesses. In fact, I think technically they would not disfellowship you for celebrating your birthday even right now.
Any major changes made will be a result of civil lawsuits. Even though the courts support freedom of religion in criminal matters they seem to have no problem giving monetary compensation for civil cases. It's hard for ex Jws to sue because most who leave are just happy to be out and they don't want to completly lose the association of family members still in the organization.
My opinion is that they are most vulnerable on the blood issue. We have noticed over the last few yrs a relaxing of the rules on blood transfusions a blood componets. One may be able to show the waffling by the rule makers on this life and death situation. This, in my opinion, shows their liablilty. There are many who have died in the past that would not have died using the current rules for blood use. These cases may still be a possibility. We notice the legal department posturing and preparing for this eventuality with the hospital liason committee and the careful wording of their instructions on what to say.

This is the way it has always been with regard to birthdays.
