Simon, so sorry to hear about your dad.
One of the low points of my life happened two years ago when my mom called to say that Dad was in the hospital following a stroke. I know what you are going through. My Dad recovered fairly well, we can hope for the same in your case. At least we didn't have to deal with the JW thing.
I agree with the others about the family situation. Do what you think is right. If they choose to act unloving that is their problem, not yours.

As for your sisters, you might invite them to come along and by so doing, pour the proverbial "hot coals" over their heads. When my father-in-law was hospitalized a couple of years ago from a heart attack, my wife and her sister did this with their braindead JW siblings and it all worked out very well.

My sympathies. I wish your Dad a speedy recovery. I don't even want to think about how my sister and I will deal with "the family" when something happens and an illness may require our presence. We'll cross that bridge when we come to it, I guess.
