Again, I don't have specific knowledge about Gadsden Alabama, but it could be one of those cases where the congregation has a sizeable African-American population.

Ok, Sylvia, had they NOT had a black man on a JC in Gadsden, Alabama........all the black brothers in Gadsden, Alabama would have been screaming that this is a white man's religion. Take the Gregerson's and blue-haired ladies out of the congos in Gadsden, all that is left is "brothas" (back in the 80's and I remember this crap)

This thread somewhat perplexes me......
I wasn't raised seeing race, only gender. (okay that is a lie..... I was given some biases like which state is the 'best', which American region was had the best hospitality and some serious college and pro sport allegiances...)
I think none of us can entirely escape our experiences growing up.......obviously race for Sister Sylvia is profound.

I'm not exactly a young man and I've been taught all my life that skin color is as irrelevant as eye color and hair color.
The mayor of the mostly white town I lived in for years was a gentleman of color. He served two terms and it didn't raise an eyebrow with anyone I ever came into contact with.
Is entering Alabama like going back in time 60 years?
