Isn't this a double standard? The WT leaders forbids or at least strongly discourages higher education, main reason being the risk of getting influenced by worldly thought and associations.

Then how come the WT leaders permit JW's to have fulltime employment with worldly companies?? In such environment also the JW is associating with worldly people, same as going to college.

    Isn't it the same thing???

Of course the *real* reason the WT leaders are afraid of higher education is that it teaches people how to think. And we all know how Jehovah HATES people who can think.

Makes you wonder why He invented brains in the first place!!

    That isn't the real reason.

The WTBTS wants a large pool of honest, hard working, UNDEDUCATED young people to provide willing workers for their slave labor camps (Bethel, farm, etc, etc) and for companies run by elders and ministerial servants.

I was stupid enough to work for "brothers" when I was a young adult. They treated you like you were a serf. And paid far less than the market rate. And if you complained they accused you of being "disloyal".

It is part of their money making scheme.

As soon as the WTS realizes what the Mormon's did YEARS ago........they will endorse not only higher education (probably via some expanded Gilead Program) but also larger families. While the JWs might have the LDS whipped on FS, the LDS has higher retention and equal yoked marriages than the JW have ever had.........

But how to keep ahm-a-geddon squarely in front of them like a carrot dangling from a stick? Aye, that's the rub. For Mormonizing would lead them to a path of higher retention, but would undermine the whole JW shtik....

Nah that ain't a much of a rub...... They have already started dismanltling Rutherford, but they ain't in the mind of any 1928 bandage yank.

For instance with this years AGM we see the GB trying to create 'imminence' but also giving themselves say another 124 years via the 'generations' overlapping schtick. This allows them now to dangle the well trotted out carrot but also allows for the R&F to know it may be awhile but 'they just don't know' as Losch commented back in the Zones......

Now imagine if you will a series of articles that increase the message of 'living a purposeful life' of modesty, meek & mildness of preaching, helping others in Christian good will and a simple life of being in 'expectation' not knowing when but having lived 'ready'. When coupled with some 'modernizing' of intepretation by ridding themselves of Rutherford's legalisms and poof......you now have a religion that will survive another hundred years with an easier conversion and higher retention. With this the WTS can move into expanding Gilead into a very small BYU and encourage other things that have proved successful with the Mormons.

A WTS version of the LDS would rake in billions and if the doomsday Mormons can survive this long and thrive off the attention seeking rants of a 17 year old boy........well than surely a legal led corporation with millions of adherents can too.

Most of my business still comes from a business owned by a couple of Dubs - but boy I have no problem charging my consultant rates, I know they can afford it.

    Isn't it the same thing???

    Yep, exactly so.

The real reason is of course that in college, a student is exposed to (1) lots of new , different, and eminently reasonable ideas that utterly conflict with the JW world view, and (2) critical thinking, a skill that actively discouraged, if not condemned, in JW literature in meetings.

Well it's obvious what a little education can do. But whenever a specialist in any field is needed, they are quick to make the call for someone to volunteer. I suppose they might feel that if a person has the education, and are still a loyal dub, then that person's thinking abillities are perfect for the religion

    HappyGuy,

I agree with you that the religion wants uneducated people so they can work for 'brothers' with businesses and be paid less than the market rate. In effect, some JWs are practically putting themselves in the position of being indentured servants like what went on before the Revolutionary War was fought. This is really pathetic, especially in the U.S. It is so sad how people can sign themselves up for servitude and bondage. This is probably why the JW religion wants uneducated people there. They might not study history and learn that a revolutionary war was fought to obtain personal freedoms!

Of course, the ignorant JWs don't initially realize they are being taken advantage of. They are so needy because they pursued poverty following the dictates of the religion and they find themselves in a desperate situation. Then some 'wonderful' brother with a business offers them a menial job and they are stuck. It's great for the brother with the business. He can insult their intelligence, underpay them and violate people's rights left and right and never expect to be sued in the courts of the land.

    WhaHappened,

As far as the religion looking for volunteers because they need some 'skill' this appalled me. Meanwhile the 'skill' was gotten because somebody went to school! Somebody or their parents PAID for this skill and the person spent years perfecting it. This always got me how this religion expects to benefit from people's education and secular know-how when they discourage this very thing. I wouldn't give these hypocrites the time of day.

If you work a stagnation trap, dead end rut job, you are not going to have the chance to learn to think for yourself. You can be working and still praying to Jehovah, thinking of how He is going to provide you with escape and deliver you from the problem He Himself created. As long as you are regular in field circus and donate all your spare money (they decide what is "spare") to the Worldwide Pedophile Defense Fund, that is not a problem.

If you go to college, you are going to see that the witlesses are the wrong religion. You are also preparing to deliver yourself from that stagnation trap job, defeating the purpose of Jehovah's trying to deliver you from His own creation. Plus, college costs money that belongs in the Worldwide Pedophile Defense Fund, and you are more likely to get other window washers and toilet scrubbers to become witlesses than college students.
