A doe ran across the road and almost hit my car. I had to speed up so she could run across behind me safely. It was close.

There are sound emiters you can buy for your vehicle especially designed for wildlife..

Outlaw- yes, they are called deer whistles!

I live in an area where it is illegal to hunt the deer and we have a huge deer problem, the deer are bold, I had a huge buck run through our backyard at 3:00 PM. My daughter was playing in the yard at the time. Really unnerving.

Most people around here have the deer whistles on their vehicles and it really seems to help. You can get them for a few dollars at most auto parts stores.

Nothing is 100% effective, but these are worth a try.

Get bull bars, carry a hunting knife to finish the job off.

    They are food.

In the part of Scotland that I live in there are quite a lot of young deer that run out of the woods and on to the roads. In many cases there are signs warning drivers of this eventuality.

About 10 years ago I borrowed my son's new car (mine was in the garage) to take an elderly couple back from a Thursday night KH meeting. On the way back from dropping them off, I hit an adult deer at around 50mph and got the shock of my life! Needless to say, my son wasn't pleased about that. The deer was killed instantly.

In Scotland, between 3 and 5 people are killed each year when their car collides with deer, and many cars are written-off. But that is nothing compared to hitting an elk in Sweden - I believe this happens quite often.

I maintain that the best advice is just to drive realy slowly when the road goes into the woods where you know that there are likely to be deer present. In my accident, the deer just appeared from nowhere, jumped over a wall and landed on the bonnet of the car!

Bloody hell - the deers in your neck of the woods are aggresive. In the UK the cars hit the deers.

I dunno 'bout the rest of the country, but here in Texas - most of the hill country has deer living in it. You can't 'drive slow' - or you'll get run over by Bubba driving his redneck pickup truck with his gunrack in the back window - spittin tobacco out his window as he blows by you.

I drive a small VW New Beetle. One night I was leaving my Aunts' home, and driving the hill country roads. Most of the way was okay, but I came around one curve and this deer - just ups and decides he wants to be on the other side of the road - so here he comes. He couldn't get traction on the pavement, and was doing one of those 'cartoon runs' where he was trying his best to get traction on the pavement and get going. Meanwhile, I'm trying to steer out of the way of what I see coming - a bad 'splat' on my windshield.

Well, the deer finally got traction, and comes at me. I hear this 'thud' behind me on the car, and the deer is gone. I didn't see him in my rearview mirror. I kept thinking that he musta ripped the heck out of my car - I've never hit a deer before, but have seen other vehicles that have been hit. I kept driving, because it was dark, and there was no use pulling over. When I got to the nearest town, I pulled into a well lit gas station and got out to examine the damage - expecting the worst. All I could find was a small hoof-smear on the rear quarter-panel of my car - where the deer's nose - or hoof had made contact with my car. No dents - no gouges - nothing. I hoped the deer was okay - and continued home.

As for repelling them... I don't have much advice. Sorry. I've seen those deer whistles - I don't know how effective they are. If it were me - I'd try them.
