I'm not the one trying to make the insanely stupid argument that Republicans are the party of civil rights. That said, there have been some great Republicans in the past and there are even a few worth their salt in public service even now. Further, some democratic positions and politicians in the past where atrocious.
But you know what, Donny's thread isn't about the distant past, it's about current events, so if I were you, HappyGuy, I wouldn't be trying to lay claim to "the facts being discussed".

The Republicans were not the ones who ensured that the Ayatollah would come to power in Iran, Jimmy Carter did that. Republicans were not the ones who got the United States involved in a war in South Vietnam, JFK did that. Republicans did not get the United States involved in wars in the Balkans, Slick Willie did that. Republicans did not let Osama Ben Laden get away, not once, not twice, but three times, Slick Willie did that.
