    The Vietnam War.
    Who ended it?
A REPUBLICAN NAMED RICHARD M. NIXON, who never tried to hide his middle name.
    Judge Dread

And who started it? A GOP President who's Veep was...Dick Nixon

In addition, Eisenhower explored the option of supporting the French colonial forces in Vietnam who were fighting an independence insurrection there. In 1953, Eisenhower sent Lt. General John W. "Iron Mike" O'Daniel to Vietnam to study and "assess" the French forces therein. [ 50 ] Chief of Staff Matthew Ridgway dissuaded the President from intervening by presenting a comprehensive estimate of the massive military deployment that would be necessary. However, later in 1954, Eisenhower did offer military and economic aid to the new nation of South Vietnam. [ 51 ] In the years that followed, the number of US military advisors in South Vietnam increased due to North Vietnam's support of "uprisings" in the south and concern the nation would fall. [ 51 ]

The Republicans launched the war that abolished slavery. The Democrats seceded from the Union and fought a war to hold onto slavery.

The Republicans launched the civil rights legislation, southern Democrats tried to block its passage.

The Democrats instituted the Jim Crow laws and the black codes.

And who signed the first major civil rights legislation? A southern Dem LBJ

The Republicans launched woman's suffrage, the Democrats did everything in their power to block it.

The list goes on and on like this.

Sorry, but you guys on both sides of the aisle are ridiculous assholes.

These are EXCELLENT observations and I can agree with them 100%.

Unfortunately, sometime in the mid to late 1900's the Republicans and Democrats switched views regarding such issues. Now it is the Democrats who support civil rights, minority rights and individual rights and the Republicans who opposed civil rights, minority rights and individual rights.

e.g., Republicans support mandatory sentences and tough drug laws. They even skew drug laws to be harder on minorities than whites (a gram of Crack Cocaine preferred by minorities carries profoundly tougher sentences than a gram of powder cocaine preferred by whites). They also support police profiling laws that allow police to profile minorities.

I'm not exactly sure how this happened, I just know it did. I distinctly recall this being taught in one of my political science classes.

Ben Laden wasn't on American soil, he was in Afghanistan. The Pashtun tribal elders let him get away when he was cornered at Tora Bora.

And please give us a list of the Congressional legislation repealing mandatory sentences and tough drug laws that the Democrats passed since they have had complete control of both Houses of Congress.

    Elsewhere,

An appropriate screen name for you since your brain seems to be elsewhere.

Now it is the Democrats who support civil rights, minority rights and individual rights and the Republicans who opposed civil rights, minority rights and individual rights.

Do you mean civil rights like laws to regulate thought ('hate' crimes laws)? Laws that allow the murder of babies (pro abortion laws and funding)? Laws to censor speech ("fairness doctrine")? Are those the ones you are talking about?

Elsewhere seems to have trouble with reading comprehension. I asked for a list of the laws that the Democrats had passed which repealed the mandatory sentencing and drug laws since the Democrats have had total control of the Congress.

    Stilll waiting.

Democrats are currently attempting to pass Senate Bill 714, The National Criminal Justice Commission Act of 2009 .

The Republicans are attempting to prevent passage.

The Republicans are trying to prevent passage.

By using the very creative tactic of co-sponsoring the bill.

Senator Jim Webb (D-VA) today introduced bipartisan legislation to create a blue-ribbon commission charged with conducting an 18-month, top-to-bottom review of the nation's entire criminal justice system and offering concrete recommendations for reform. Senator Arlen Specter (R-PA), Ranking Member on the Judiciary Committee, is the principal Republican cosponsor.

Of course, Arlen Spector is a Democrat now. There is at least one Republican co-sponser remaining, Lindsay Graham (who seems to be a cut above the average Republican on justice issues, probably because of his JAG experience.)

In addition to Senators Webb and Specter, original cosponsors of the legislation include: Democratic Leader Harry Reid (D-NV), Judiciary Chairman Patrick Leahy (D-VT), Crime and Drugs Subcommittee Chairman Richard Durbin (D-IL), Crime and Drugs Subcommittee Ranking Member Lindsay Graham (R-SC), and Senators Chuck Schumer (D-NY), Patty Murray (D-WA), Ted Kennedy (D-MA), Ron Wyden (D-OR), Sherrod Brown (D-OH), Ben Cardin (D-MD), Claire McCaskill (D-MO), Mark Warner (D-VA), Roland Burris (D-IL), and Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY).
