The teachings on hellfire, Trinity, not getting evolved in the military, and especially the flag salute being idolatry all sounded reasonable and separated the jw from other religions. Thats what drew me to get baptized as a jw.

I was born in. Thought the idea of never dying, of never having to watch my parents or even grandparents die was a great thing.

Never dying or growing old sounds pretty nifty.

Such a fear of death...I didn't realize that played such a major factor.

In the 50s and 60s, it was all homestyle cooked meals at the Conventions. I remember looking forward to those times.

It's very typical for people to turn to religion in times of need. Too bad you went to the wrong one.

My mother came into the organisation when I was 4 so I knew no better. She said she had been praying and the angels led the witnesses to her so pretty heady stuff when you are 4.
I wanted to believe that people I loved deeply would be resurrected but lived in fear that others who were not baptised would die at Armagedon. It is kind of warped to be glad and sad when unbelieving relatives died because then they would get a resurrection. Paradise is a great concept but the price sucks.
