Ok, one more time, I'm asking, can you tell me where to focus on?...I'm new at this.
What planet or the moon?.. the scope is all set up.
thanks in advance.

BTTT...it's cloudy here..maybe someone can see this!
It's always too cloudy here to watch for meteorite showers.
I saw it. Quite a few big ones, too, for a change.
Ah, well, I never distinguished the difference between Meteorite shower and Meteor shower - guess it has to do with SIZE...????
For those of you seeking further info, I am very sorry that I was OFF-board for a few days = hurrying to get a BUNCHA sewing done before Xmas. I will do better for the NEXT meteor shower [thanks, KurtBethel, and we missed it too due to clouds... ]
Someone asked about telescopes, here's some info that might be helpful for the next one... "By the way, I don't think you need a telescope to watch meteorite showers - hubby has a gorgeous, fancy older telescope with a 'tracking' motor that will adjust for the earth's rotation - but he didn't pull it out for this shower, and we've NEVER had to do so for any showers in the past.... Telescopes work best on semi-stationary objects; shooting stars are moving WAAAAY too fast..."
I will research the next shower, which I think will occur sometime in February 2010... If I can get enough advance notice, then those of you who are interested can plan "meteor shower" parties - not forbidden by the WTBTS, as far as I know... - and can get out there with your snuggly down-filled sleeping bags, winter coats, down comforters, air mattresses, portable Coleman ™ heaters, and thermos' full of mulled cider, latte' and other hot drinks...
I'll get my act together yet, so you can have enjoyable meteor 'expeditions' in the future...

Thanks for posting this, Ziddina! I missed it because of the cloudiness, too. But there's always more...
December 21 - The Winter Solstice occurs in the northern hemisphere at 17:47 UT. The Sun is at its lowest point in the sky and it will be the shortest day of the year. This is also the first day of winter.
December 31 - Full Moon & Partial Lunar Eclipse. The eclipse will be visible throughout most of Europe, Africa, Asia, and Australia. NASA site.
January 3, 4 - Quadrantids Meteor Shower. The Quadrantids are an above average shower, with up to 40 meteors per hour at their peak. The shower usually peaks on January 3 & 4, but some meteors can be visible from January 1 - 5. Best viewing will be from a dark location after midnight. Look for meteors radiating from the constellation Bootes.

Eclipses During 2010
In 2010, there are two solar and two lunar eclipses:
• 2010 Jan 15: Annular Solar Eclipse
• 2010 Jun 26: Partial Lunar Eclipse
• 2010 Jul 11: Total Solar Eclipse
• 2010 Dec 21: Total Lunar Eclipse

Ah , BetterDaze! Between you and me, we'll keep the board posted on upcoming celestial attractions! The Quadrantids sounds like a good shower to plan for... Do you happen to know what the best locations and times will be??

Here ya' go... http://meteorshowersonline.com/quadrantids.html. They provide a viewing chart. Let's hope the weather cooperates!

Cool! for posting that! That looks like a better site than "Sky & Telescope" - S&T seems to be less 'user-friendly'; more for purists...
