JW`s have WBT$ Blessing to screw with your life..

If your not happy about it too bad..

The only reason your not happy is..

Your not doing what the WBT$ tells you to do..

The first and last time they messed with a holiday (after we began celebrating again) was a Mother's Day. We were new parents, so I was looking forward to a nice family day. DH had to leave that evening for an extended road trip, and his dub Mother wanted to take him to brunch to say goodbye to him. Never mind she had all the preceding week to do so, and I had four tenderloin steaks and five pounds of Gulf shrimp defrosted. They wound up being gone several hours, our dinner was ruined, and DH went down the road feelin' bad. I took the shrimp to a buddy from Louisiana who turned them into etoufee.

I think a lot of dubs feel left out and miserable over the holidays or during any celebration for that matter. It pisses them off if they see you having a good time and Jehovah won't let them. It isn't supposed to be that way after all they are the ones that are "Jehovah's happy people" and you are having all the fun. If they can ruin it for you at least they can feel some satifaction knowing you aren't happy either and then they can point at you and say "see what these evil worldly holidays do to people."

My in-laws always end up with a CA as well as a CO visit and even a pioneer school over what should be the christmas holidays, so even if they wanted to do something to relax, they are usually on high alert.... [they are over 80 years old and have to persecute themselves that they need to do more!!!]

I never did personally, on Xmas day I would only visit calls if I knew that they were on their own over the holiday and told them that this wasn't a religious call we just wanted to check they were ok. The calls appreciated the visit as it was more of a social call.

At the end of the day I took the view that we had to respect that people had the right to celebrate the holiday and if our visit was likely to cause embarrasment or discomfort to them then it would be best to keep away. After all why alienate people on the territory you need to call on for the rest of the year.

I also took the view that if someone was kind enough to buy a gift for myself or my children then say thank you and show appreciation. Make a point of taking them out at some other time and treat them to lunch and buy a gift for them then.

I remember the joy of wrapped presents and have never denied my children. We made a big fuss of anniversaries, good school reports, at memorial time went shopping for special clothes. We did actively look for times to make a fuss and surprise them. This is not always the case. Holidays do serve the purpose of reminding us to think of others which is a good thing.

In our area there is one of those special ass-embly days right around Christmas! One year it fell on Christmas Eve!!!!! grrrr! I was still so freaked out about the whole 'omg! he's in a cult' thing, I felt it was scheduled on that day just to annoy my jw's family! Intellectually I knew this was not so but it sure felt like it! My jw goes to all family Christmas dinners because if he didn't his life would change profoundly!! He enjoys the holidays if you ask me but then we always had Christmas, birthdays, etc..... The house is all cozy with the tree & lights around the house and baking smells nearly every day, now if I could just get him to stop snitching all the cookies that are meant to be presents!

I Quit ! You NAILED it, Dude! Though a lot of JWs would claim they had no ulterior motive, or that they were doing it 'for your own good', I think you hit upon the EXACT underlying motive!!!

Zid P.S. Maybe we should celebrate birthdays - MUCH more often - on this board!??
