an exchange today...something that tore at my heart.

I pulled up into my drive with a trunk full of groceries....hoping to avoid the JW's next door. Too late, as I popped my trunk I hear behind me hello.

In general, I try to be nice, I let them introduce themselves and then let them know my mom is a current witness, I was raised one and I am out.

They dropped the witness stuff, and we introduced ourselves. I always shake hands....As a woman shaking hands I can always tell a sincere man. I've been in business for years and know a sincere handshake.

All I can say is it was the best, sincere hand shake I have ever experienced. After talking to my mom, turns out the guy had been disfellowshipped for years and just came back.

It makes me sick. There are no words.

Pec, what was even sadder, he was out door to door with his mother. But his hand shake said more than any words.

I really can't understand why people come back. What stumps me more is the number who still feel it is the Truth!!! I contacted a DF'd friend of mine, been out nearly 9 years, he said "I still think the organisation represents God" - WTF, I'll be lending him Crisis of Conscience when I see him next.

He prolly went back to be with his family. Now he's "out in service"with his mom during the holidays and feels ever so good about himself. Delusion works wonders. :)

Yep. I'd say it's family. The pull can be incredible. But I'm with CL. How could you ever go back to that life?

    Yea....an opening!

What can I say.... I was at the SM last night!

You have made contact! Now next time you can have a conversation with him about why he is back 'in'.......maybe let him think he has a chance of convincing you while you reason with him on the finer WTS historical points of why it doesn't seem like Jesus would appoint the WTS. There is nothing like getting a JW to explain the timeline of the WT 1914-1943 versus the chronology of 607........and the best part is you can use current pubs to introduce the subject....."Like why the Million's title is misrepresented"

Hope to see you introducing us to this gentlemen in the coming year as a new poster!

Of course I don't know who this person is, so this is just speculation, but if his parents were, say, "well-off" JWs (and there are a few, I've heard), perhaps the only way this man could assure himself a part of of inheritance would be to "return to Jehovah," else it all goes to the WATCHTOWER.

I think I could understand that motivation, even though it doesn't apply in my case.

Quite likely that once he gets his piece of the pie he'll be off to the land of FREEDOM once again. Just quietly slip out the proverbial back door and never be heard from again.

He'll be back for another conversation
