Speaking from personal experience, those tears are VERY cathartic.

We had a fantastic time. We just took my brother back to the airport.
I've visited with him one-on-one several times in the last 3 years since my own awakening, but this was the first time getting together with my wife and kids. We were all amazed at how well it went. It felt SOOOO right. My wife and kids became aware of bits and pieces of the gay community they had never really thought about before and it was all received in a completely non-judgemental fashion.
Most of all it was great getting to know my older brother as a real, loving, breathing, human being and not some "demonized" foaming-at-the-mouth apostate Son of Satan that the WT would have us believe.
We're hoping to get back together over Spring Break.
The planting, watering and waiting was very much worth it.
