I gave a guy $2.00 because he said he had`nt eaten and wanted to buy a Hamburger..
10 minutes later,I see him in a convertable..
He`s relaxing in the car,with the top down..
Waiting for his buddy to pick up liquor,with the money he scammed from other people besides me..
I told him..
His buddy would be out of the Liquor store soon,with his Hamburger..

Offering a meal is a good test. I once saw a lady with her 5 year old panhandling outside a bank. She asked for money. I offered food, She declined and said she wasn"t to proud to beg for money. I got food and fed the little girl.
Another time a guy was working the drive through line. I offered food. He got angry and left.
Another time I saw a guy in front of a take out and he asked for money. I offered food. He accepted. I bought a large meal and he said thanks.
So I did well 33% of the time.
I'm in l.a. too. I give them beer and some smokes.

I had a woman ask for money for a train ticket. I said i would not give her cash but if she wanted food i would buy her something to eat. Which i did. Many hours later, i saw her at the casino pokies. Thats why i wont give money.

For some reason I seem to attract the brazen kind that come to my vehicle, sometimes while I have children in there.
They scare the bejeebers out of me! I give them usually enough to go buy a little off the value menu...just enough to get me out of the situation safely. You never know how some people will react.
I had that happen to me once at the library. The guy asked me for money and I told him no. He became belligerent and followed me to my car. The guy actually acted like he was going to get into the car by stepping up to my door and cornering me while I was trying to get in.
I went ghetto on him and actually scared the bejeebers out of him. That was over 10 years ago. Occassionally I'll run into the guy, he'll step aside and always wishes me a good day.
I don't give cash. I buy them some food and drink - and let them know the places in town where they can get free supplies if they need them in future.
