changeling summed it up perfectly. I would also like to add that I'm often very grateful, but not thankful to any particular person or thing. For instance, it's beautiful out today, and I'm grateful for the sun and the blue skies and the trees, but I don't feel the need to thank anyone for them.

Lately, I am thankful for historical and textual scholars; I am thankful for the bravery of those who question the existence of god, and the validity of religious institutions.

Good point, cofty. I also don't throw the blame on someone else (i.e. the devil...) when things aren't going my way. I either accept that it's just life, and there is no meaning or reason behind it, or I take the blame myself if it was something I did that put me in the situation.

I agree with that ILTSF. I used to feel such a sense of anger over injustice and suffering. A friend of mine died in a horrible and avoidable accident during the years I was a "born-again" my reaction was how "UNFAIR" it was. Other christians in the church found comfort in the idea that it was somehow for the best in a way we could not understand which just made me angrier.

Now I still have as much or more compassion for suffering but the sense of injustice or anger, and the angst over trying to understand "WHY" has gone. Life happens - I'm much more at peace with reality.
