Yadda, do you find fault with everyone's post?? You have clearly been repudiated.

no one can say, "Jesus is Lord," except by the Holy Spirit
Clearly as neither the WT or JWs proclaim that "Jesus is Lord", they are not speaking by the Holy Spirit.
If you point out that according to the translation rules of the NWT it should read "Jesus is Jehovah" JWs normally get quite irate.
No wonder the WT discourages JWs from learning any Greek.

Amen to that.
If they even think you're flaunting your learning, they love to pull this Scripture on you - taken out of context, of course.
Romans 8:1 Now about food sacrificed to idols: We know that we all possess knowledge. Knowledge puffs up, but love builds up. NIV
One elder seemed to take delight in reading that, all the while looking meaningfully in my direction.
Tee hee hee.

To be fair, yadda's question is fair and I think it was brought in good spirit. The question has been raised before so there's confirmation!
I hope my answer helps. I think the bible would be fair dull if it didn't speak in conjunction with the Holy Spirit and combined they didn't have supernatural power to transform lives from death to life.
It would just be a history book and a moral code, nothing living or active. That is where JWs are with it until one day it speaks to them. Then it is up to them to follow the Spirit and see how deep the rabbit hole goes or else just take the blue pill.
Morpheus: This is your last chance. After this, there is no turning back. You take the blue pill - the story ends, you wake up in your bed and believe whatever you want to believe. You take the red pill - you stay in Wonderland and I show you how deep the rabbit-hole goes.
Blessings,
Stephen

Once again JWs are like Israel of old :(
Isaiah 56:10-11 (New International Version)
10 Israel's watchmen are blind,
they all lack knowledge;
they are all mute dogs,
they cannot bark;
they lie around and dream,
they love to sleep.11 They are dogs with mighty appetites;
they never have enough.
They are shepherds who lack understanding;
they all turn to their own way,
each seeks his own gain.Same deal here Hosea 4

Behold Stephen! A gentleman and a Christian!
1 Peter 4:14-16 If you're abused because of Christ, count yourself fortunate. It's the Spirit of God and his glory in you that brought you to the notice of others. If they're on you because you broke the law or disturbed the peace, that's a different matter. But if it's because you're a Christian, don't give it a second thought. Be proud of the distinguished status reflected in that name! MSG

...are you just a born-again bible thumper who never was a JW and just happens to dislike JWs?
What would make you think that Chalam just happens to dislike JWs?

I guessed that Chalam never was a JW. And I knew he was a staunch born-again type and he has admitted he was raised in a born-again household. I can smell them a mile away. Stephen is simply here to trash JW's and appears to think he has some divine mission here to save them.
So many born-again Christians just love to attack the "false teachings" and "destruction" of the Watchtower, all in the name of "love" of course while constantly quoting scriptures, all the while promoting the trinity, immortal soul dogmas, and other such orthodox nonsense and poppycock. And of course ignoring the disgusting record of orthodox Christianity over the last 2000 years when it comes to destruction.
Frankly Chalam, I think you are just another holier-than-thou, born-again, bible-thumping raver who waves his hands and yells out "Jesus" on Sundays at Church and thinks he is so much more righteous than any JW.

Chalam often quotes scriptures that I am familiar with, then applies them in a way I haven't thought of before and I have to think about them.
His posts here have helped me alot. I find them comforting and encouraging.

Yadda,
Your view of all orthodoxy as "disgusting" makes YOU sound holier-than-thou like a certain group that shall remain nameless. No offense.
"Knowledge puffs up, but love builds up."
WT's using that scripture to discourage scholarship is, forgive my unchristian lingo, BULLSHIT! This is a religion that is constantly throwing the term "accurate knowledge" in your face! "This is the TRUTH! Why? Because we have ACCURATE KNOWLEDGE! How are we saved? Through ACCURATE KNOWLEDGE! Why must we do Personal Study and Meeting Attendance? ACCURATE KNOWLEDGE!" Of course, when they say "ACCURATE KNOWLEDGE", they really mean Watchtower Dogma as learned through constant study of Watchtower Publications and only Watchtower Publications.
Aargh...
