I had a friend who got appointed after being gone for 4 months. He actually had me scheduled to give a talk at his hall.
I want to be appointed as an Elder while I am still posting here, will Holy Spirit prevent me?

Think About It
Darth Frosty.....don't doubt your account of your friend being appointed (I'm assuming Elder) after being gone 4 months, because none of the things I'm finding out now make sense. Highly unusual situation.
In the past, what I was familiar with was a 2 or 3 year period (could even be longer) where the person "reaching out" for more cong. privileges was watched closely by the Elder body to determine his qualifications first for MS, before Elder could even be considered. 1 Tim 3:1-10 was the primary scriptual qualifications that were considered among others from the "Elder book".
Person had to be exemplary in conduct, family headship, meeting attendance, FS, commenting, personal study & bible reading and reputation. Prior to even being appointed MS the person was already doing other extra privileges in the cong. The person's thinking had to be 100% in line with WTS doctine, beliefs & policy.
If after time, an Elder thought a person would make a good MS, he was "nominated" to the other Elders for consideration. The biblical qualifications were considered one by one to see how the person stood up. Politics are highly involved. Sometimes "highly emotional" debate is used to swing the "vote" one way or the other. Sometimes Elders just give up or go along with a decision just to get it over with. If it is decided to appoint the person they move on to the next step.
The CO will be informed for his scrutiny. He should already know the person from previous visits and should already have an opinion. If by chance he doesn't know anything about the person, they are going to get closer scrutiny. Get the Elders on board to pitch the person to the CO and it's probably a done deal unless the person does or says "something dumb" during the CO visit. Pass the CO check and it's off to Brooklyn for the final say. (heard there was some kind of change on that now)
Going from MS to Elder is a whole different game as it involves more time, maturity, biblical knowledge and "be qualified to teach". First, as a MS they would progress to give the public talks in their cong. Depending on ability, the MS was invited to travel to other congs. to give the public talk. Ability in FS is considered. Has the person conducted any BS's? Does he conduct his family BS? If the MS passed all that criteria, you would go through the body of Elders, CO, Brooklyn, etc. steps again.
After all those hoops, the person was appointed Elder and the cong. informed.
Unless things have changed that much or there is such an extreme need for anybody to fill the Elder body.....I find it hard to believe it would be an easy thing to "fool the process" and be appointed in a short time or appointed with "less than noble motives". From the politics I have seen, I just think a person just going through the motions would raise suspicion.
If It was me......I would just either be honorable and try to do good for people within or just drop the whole idea.
If you have doubts now......being further on the inside is just going to expose you to more things that will raise doubts.

i dont think the Holy Spirit has anything to do with annointing JW to a position coz why would it appoint someone doing the wrong thing.
I know of someone appointed to MS even though he has a massive porn, masterbation problem had slept around, never studied for meeting, never read mags or any other literture. elders never knew until i dobbed him in after years as an MS.
Dont think my hubby ever forgave me for dobbing him in, i just couldnt stand the hypocrisy, elders thought he was so wonderful

For me, I find it to be extremely impossible to lead a double life. The elder position being so demanding, that would be so hard to spending sizeable part of one's time to it if you are just in for the fun of it.

Scott, there is one PO(now called the Coordinator of Body of Elders) that posts here regularly, if you would like to know the name of the poster, PM me.

If the Holy Spirit cannot prevent things like the Haitian earthquake and the 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami then it certainly isn't going to stop something as insignificant as you being appointed as an Elder.
If you play the game properly, you'll get in no problem.
Can you tell us why you would want to?

Of course it won't. Appointments are nothing to do HS, it is all about how you appear to the BOE.
Why the hell would you want to be an elder anyway? Would you really want to serve on a Judicial committee and live the guilt of judging someone for not meeting some petty cult requirement.

I agree with cantleave:
1) HS has squat to do with appointments. I just heard that a "Dexter" loving, alcholic masturbator just got reappointed after 2 years out. The reappointment had nothing to do with the aformentioned "issues" which only a few of us in my family know about. I would literally vomit if I heard he is giving parts on the need to avoid violent shows, moderate use of alchol and self control.
2) JC's are soul destroying. If there is one thing that stresses me out its knowing I was part of a sham that destroyed peoples lives. I am seriously thinking of seeking all those I can and apologizing. At least I had some staisfaction being part of appeal committees that over-turned a few stupid decisions.
Don't bother - there are better things to do with your time than dealing with issues fron inside goldfish bowl which is where you and your family will be put - either that or under a microscope. Add to that the wasteful so called "brief" elder meetings, having to take time off when the CO comes, Elder Schools held at the one time in the year whn you can actually get a break from things - Xmas. I could go on and on......

not a captive
Has anyone successfully tested the 'power' of the Holy Spirit by being appointed even though they were not zealous JW's?
Dear aGBM, Do you think that God is interested in what is going on with this? How much are you really invested in this? I don't get it.
