Why does God even need to be found? Is he lost(JOKE). Seriously what is the advantage of looking for some one that can only exist in people's imaginations. It is all based on an idea(assumption) that a supreme intelligence want to be found in a game of hide and go seek and that he rewards the effort?
Why would a supreme intelligence even want to be found if he existed? Isn't this just another fairy tale on equal footing with putting your tooth under your pillow for the tooth fairy to take and leave a cash prize when you wake up?

    Good questions.

Its not about hide and seek and I say found in regards to people whp are searching in one way or another.

    Those that aren't searching, aren't.

Why would God want to be found?

Why did God put the desire to search for him in us?

    Psac,

Why would God want to be found?
Why did God put the desire to search for him in us?

So you answer the assumption with another assumption in the form of a question which assumes, that God put a desire in us to search for him. Both are assumption. If we have a desire in us to search for God, it is an assumption that the one we are searching for put the desire there. Have you taken into account that the desire could have been put in us by former religious indoctrination and not by God?

i abandoned the christian faith because along with my study of the bible in trying to rid myself of the doubts about the jw religion, i started to questionstuff in the bible,

the god in the bible just seemed to me, especially in the old testament, to be acting like a jealous insecure possessive partner in a relationshipl, rather like the jealousness selfishness one sees in an abuusive partner actually, it just didnt ring true that a loving god with all this power would be that wound up if people ignored him, if he was that big of a person he would just feel for those people and not be affected if they ignored him or not, he wouldd be more concerned that they were happy, and content in life,

why would he create them with desires for loving others of the same sex and then stone them for it,

that and loads of other stuff, like the fact that what we call the bible today was bascially a load of pieces of writing that some old blokes in nicea (rather like a governing body we all may be familiar with ) just picked and chose which THEY decided were gods word. How can anyone possibly prove they had gods spirit over any other person on the planet, just cos they were in a high position in a church???

i just dont buy it frankly, its too polluted with politics, open to fraud and messing with.

I see more spirituality in people that never read a bible but to me just have goodness in them, i feel like a much more honest and better person and i havent looked at the bible in years,

thats why i left christianity - yes there are some good things in the bible, but so there are in many other traditions and writings, i think we can find "god" in many places, no denomination can contain him, and explain him, and be his mouthpiece in my opinion,

    all my opinion,

    Breathing.

Not sure what an universalist is...sorry.

I was using the term loosely to mean that all walks of faith lead to the same god, and/or everyone will be saved. In summary, it doesn't get caught up in trying to create litmus tests for "true" and "false" religion, necessarily. Good people will be rewarded, regardless of the details of their own beliefs.

moshe -- Good observations. This is certainly true in many cases.

Slimboyfat -- Thank you for the pointer to Holden's article.

Watson -- That is very true and not necessarily a bad thing. Which is to say, if a person gets something positive out of it, then go for it.

Frankiespeakin -- I agree that some folks are completely unconcerned with 'finding' God. Interesting point.

I have often observed the same thing. In fairness, I'll add that people of faith are also some of the most wonderful people I know. So it's not a black and whtie type thing, in totality.

Quirky1 -- It just didn't resonate with you, eh?
