    BTS:

Christianity has a somewhat similar concept relating to growth, it is especially prevalent in Eastern Christianity. It is called theosis. Literally, it means transcending, becoming like god.

I was amazed to discover just how ignorant WT kept me, regarding Eastern Christianity.

So you answer the assumption with another assumption in the form of a question which assumes, that God put a desire in us to search for him. Both are assumption. If we have a desire in us to search for God, it is an assumption that the one we are searching for put the desire there. Have you taken into account that the desire could have been put in us by former religious indoctrination and not by God?

Of course we must consider that religious indoctrination is a factor for US, but there has, arguably, always been a search for "God" since the very beginning, be it the Suna nd the Moon or a Deity of some sort.

One has to ask ourselves why?

I was using the term loosely to mean that all walks of faith lead to the same god, and/or everyone will be saved. In summary, it doesn't get caught up in trying to create litmus tests for "true" and "false" religion, necessarily. Good people will be rewarded, regardless of the details of their own beliefs.

Since I believe in an all knowing God, yes I would agree with that.

LEaving wT - yes i totally agree with you, i have some friends that are relgious and are truly lovely human beings,

i think what i mean is that - i believe it has little to do with the fact that they belong to some religion or other but the the fact that they are spiritual, which in my belife are two diff things,

    cheers B

    Breathing,

i think we can find "god" in many places, no denomination can contain him, and explain him, and be his mouthpiece in my opinion,

    I couldn't agree more.

I know what you mean. Some folks are just good, decent folks, with or without religion, and vice versa with mean people.

Organized religion is a great way to network.

And that's the damned truth. However, when it comes to networking, the JWs even suck at that.

Meh, I am still ignorant. I've only picked up a few bits and pieces.

May I walk on those streets of gold with you, my brother.

You will. If your heart is in the right place, you will.

Dang, I feel so ignorant. This is the first time I've heard of eastern christianity. Just something else to add to the list of things to study. It seems like it never ends.

I left christianity when I realised I was making the same lame excuses for god that I used to make for the "F&DS"

For me there were 3 main steps to losing god -

    1. understanding that complexity does not provide evidence of a creator

    2. accepting that theodicy is compelling evidence against god

    3. admitting that the bible does not hold up to scrutiny

When I finally admitted to myself that the emotions and feelings of having encountered god were just that - subjective feelings, the rest was easy.
