God is all knowing and all powerful and all present in the context of the very "rules" of the universe he created and abides by himself.

God is all that God is because he can be no less or no more.

    God Is

    Verse 1
    God is my protection.
God is my all in all.
God is my guide and direction.
God is my all in all.

    Verse 2
God is my joy in time of sorrow.
God is my all in all.
God is my today and tomorrow.
God is my all in all.

    Chorus
God is the joy and the strength of my life,
He moves all pain, misery, and strife.
He promised to keep me, never to leave me.
He's never ever come short of His word.

I've got to fast and pray, stay in His narrow way,
    I've got to keep my life clean everyday;
I want to go with Him when He comes back,
I've come too far and I'll never turn back.

    God is (8x),
God is my all in all

I forgot which book, but there is a 'lost' book or uncannonized one i was reading, could be book of jubilees, jasher, enoch, etc, but it said how Esau was bragging to Issac how when the command was given to get circumsized, he was the first to do it and went right along. Issac said if the command was given for his own life, he would happy agree to it. God overheard this, as well as Satan, and a test was brought up, without telling Abraham what was heard, would Abraham agree to sacrifice his son, and would Issac prove true to what he said. Whether this was the true story or not, if it was, it does put a different spin on things. Along the way, also went in detail on how Satan tried to trick and manipulate them into not doing it.

    The Book of Jasher rocks!

It tells us that Esau was guilty of adultery and murder when he sold his birthright to Jacob.

That's why he was so tired!

    No-account heathen!

I believe all that God is, Jesus is.

For His own reasons, the Father chose to remain in the background.

I find that things are not as cut-and-dried as we were led to believe

Which brings up the question as to why abrahams god required body mutilation as well. Was circumcision an act of punishment? Was it a test of obedience? It was required as his part of a contract deal.

Also, you may want to consider another twist on this sacrificial story. There is some disagreement on which son was actually to be sacrificed and some hold the theory that it was Ishmael, not Isaac.

    quote:

According to the contextual interpretation [citation needed] of some early Islamic theologians (whose view prevailed later), Ishmael was the actual son that Abraham was called on to sacrifice, as opposed to Isaac. [1] [5]

Although born of Hagar, according to Mesopotamian law, Ishmael was credited as Sarah's son; a legal heir through marriage. ( Genesis 16:2 ) [1]

Abraham was 86 years old when Ishmael was born. [8] Abraham, obeying God's commandment, circumcised Ishmael, this occurred when Ishmael was thirteen. [9] That year, Abraham's wife Sarah became pregnant with his second son, Isaac. [4] One day Sarah was angered by seeing Ishmael mocking or playing with Isaac (the Hebrew word is ambiguous [10] ),

The Qur'an states that Abraham was commanded to sacrifice his son. The son is not named in the Qur'an (see Qur'an 37:99–113) and in early Islam, there was a controversy over the son's identity [citation needed] . However the belief that the son was Ishmael prevailed, and this view is continued to be endorsed by Muslim scholars. [5] The argument of those Muslims who believed in the Ishmael theory was that "the promise to Sarah of Isaac followed by Jacob (Qur'an 11:71–74) excluded the possibility of a sacrifice of Isaac." [5]

The Bahá'í writings state that it was Ishmael, and not Isaac, who was the son that Abraham almost sacrificed. [27]

There is a lot of speculation as to what this was all about and what really happened here: "One day Sarah was angered by seeing Ishmael mocking or playing with Isaac (the Hebrew word is ambiguous [10] ),"

Could it be that Ishmael was about to be killed because of his father's anger? Let's look at what others have made of this.

There have been four explanations given for this passage. Here is one:

    R. Eliezer, son of R. Jose of Galilee, said the "sport" was none other than illicit sexual relations, as in Gen. 39:17, where the same Hebrew verb occurs: "The Hebrew servant, whom thou hast brought unto us, came in unto me to mock me [letzachek]."
