restrangled -- I agree wholeheartedly. One of my favorite pianists of all time, Nyíregyházi, was a terrible alcoholic who often played so drunk that entire passages came out as the musical equivalent of gibberish. Neverthless the intensity of his emotion was spellbinding, scarcely without parallel when he was at his finest.

Still, extremely precise musical "pyrotechnics" can send a chill up my spine. Switching from piano to violin, this is one of my favorite examples of "cold perfection" ... it brings tears to my eyes even though it's played with ZERO emotion:

(edit: i switched out the first video for another better one, though all of this girl's videos are excellent)

    BTS,

You love Malguena? You should hear Charro play it! She was trained by none other than Andres Segovia himself. Segovia only accepted 5 Master students at a time and it was a great honor to study with him. Our "goochy-goochy" girl Charro did. I was able to meet her on the Hawaiian Island of Kauai about 15 years ago or so. She had her own restaurant there. That woman just oozed culture and class, like a princess. No silly exggerated Puerto Rican accent, and no goochy-goochy. That was all a put on she used in her act.

Malaguena was written by Ernesto Lecuona (sp?) for piano. I play it. Perhaps the person who made it most famous was that legendary hypochondriac Oscar Levant.

If I could play any instrument, then, by the stated supposition, wouldn't any instrument qualify, and therefore, all of them is the only logical answer?

If someone tells you they can "play any instrument," you think that means only one?
