They taste great, especially with the horseradish sauce. They are absolute death to a low-fat low-cal diet, though. Especially if you follow it up with a nice steak and a pint of good micro-brew, which I cannot resist doing. Save it for special occasions only!

They're usually a bit heavy on the onion.

looked in co-op last night but the onions there were small, will check out supermarket later, our onions are very round as opposed to flat. so i'll give a small version a go.

choux pastry deep fried makes a nice donut equivalent with a shake of sugar and a bit of cinnamon in it

Deep fried Coke seems to be the most extreme.
I wouldn't know about the blooms because I HATE onions.
