    Hello WTW,

Can anyone prove with just the Bible that one should not belong on social network sites?

    Quite the opposite!

    Mark 16:15 (New International Version)

15 He said to them, "Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation.

As Pistoff has pointed out, in theory, the internet should be a huge bonus for the WT.

However, in practice, their falsehood is repeatedly exposed from every angle as they have no control over it.

    Blessings,

    Stephen

The Governing Body hate the idea that JWs are on the Internet and that they can be contacted by XJWs. This negates to a large degree the the information control they have in place through disfellowshipping and not allowing JWs to talk to former members.

Face book is a very real threat to the isolation of JW from the XJWS as XJWS can find them on Face book through Internet searches. I expect them to get even tougher on the friends for being on Face book.

July 2007 Question Box Kingdom Ministry

    7/07 KM:

    Question Box

What are the dangers of using the Internet to associate with someone we do not know?

A number of Web sites have been designed for people to meet and correspond over the Internet. Many of these sites allow individuals to create and post their own profile, which may include pictures and other personal information. People who view the profile can then make contact. Such Web sites are very popular among young people, and some youths in the congregation have used them to interact with others who claim to be Jehovah’s Witnesses.

It is easy for a person whom we meet over the Internet to be deceptive about his identity, his spirituality, or his motives. (Ps. 26:4) An individual claiming to be one of Jehovah’s Witnesses may actually be an unbeliever, a disfellowshipped person, or even an active apostate. (Gal. 2:4) Reportedly, many pedophiles use such Web sites to find their victims.

Even if we are convinced that those with whom we are corresponding are in good standing in the congregation, conversations in such a setting can easily drift toward unwholesome material. This is because people tend to be less inhibited with individuals they have not met personally. They may also view online communication as private and feel that whatever they say will not come to the attention of others, such as their parents or the elders. Sadly, a number of youths from Christian households have been ensnared and have become involved in obscene speech. (Eph. 5:3, 4; Col. 3:8) Others have included sexually provocative pictures of themselves, suggestive nicknames, or links to sexually explicit music videos in their computer profile.

In view of the foregoing, parents should monitor their children’s activity on the computer. (Prov. 29:15) It would be dangerous to invite a stranger into our home or to allow him to be alone with our children. Similarly, it is dangerous for us or our children to make friends with strangers over the Internet, even if they claim to be Jehovah’s Witnesses.—Prov. 22:3

The new generation of JWs are going to have it hard. Their whole world revolves around instant communication and social networks. There is a rebellion stirring in the ranks. It's only a matter of time ...

Me thinks they may be concerned meeting attendance will fall off if the pedophiles are too busy on line to make the KingDumb Hell.

Shawn, while I agree with the sentiment, I have to say I find it hard to believe a high-control cult will fade. :( We can always hope, though.

I love the facebook thing that is happening to the JW community.

I have maintained for some time that the internet would lead to the eventual downfall of the JW group, (at least to the elimination of all intelligent and desirable human specimens from the group - there will always be nut-jobs who will hang for power/social/emotioanl reasons). This Facebook thing is quite encouraging.

I don't think that even the master spin doctors in brooklyn can figure a way out of this jam.

    VIVA THE INTERNET!

as usual the dirty postates etc get the blame for being sneaky

but the sites that seem very popular with active jws seem to be ones where the 'df'd' and active 'apostates' dont hide or sneak about.

they knowingly seek them out and spend hours in their company via their keyboards. favourite excuse....its got jehovah in the title.

At least 50 of my "Friends" on Facebook are active JW's. No Elders or MS's, But a bunch of their wives and kids. It is amazing how many ex-JW's celebrate B-days and holidays openly, and active JW's are still "friends" with them. Nevermind them being friends with some quiet apostates.

I have yet to see any of my "friends" delete their accounts. Although I am sure it is coming.

It seems likea bigger problem than the GB even realizes.
