Are JWs attracting more and more off-center people?

People are generally born into a religion, so there can be the normal range of personalities. On the other hand, people generally join cults/religions due to some vulnerability in their lives or personalities. So it would be logical that religions such as the WTS with a larger than normal percentage of converts would have a larger number of strange people.

For as long as I can remember, I have noticed a lot of unusual people converting to become Witnesses. Of those that are raised as JWs and stay they are often the misfits as well.

It makes sense that as access to information becomes more available, less people educated enough to research the religion prior to joining would convert. Therefore, more and more people that still convert will be off-center.

Like the animated cartoon "Rudolph". The song "We're a couple of misfits" from the island of misfit toys. Most of these folks coming from troubled backgrounds.

I think an overall liberalization of the world and religious views have affected all religions, and because of this, it has affected JW's.

It was my observation that JW's were somewhat adept at getting the zealous fringe people from other religions up through some point in the 1980's, with some ebb and flow in between. These people went from passionately caring about their old religion to passionately caring about JW dogma and all the "organized" activities of JW's...

This is just a newly formed thought for me, but it seems reasonable as a working theory to postulate that as overall religious zeal has ebbed since the 1990's, that the ratio of zealous JW converts has dropped. Thus, the only really zealous converts would have to be, by process of elimination, just a bit high strung, unstable, irrational, needing to do and believe in something no matter what.

Enter Jehovah's Witnesses, the religion of no matter what.

Yeah, as a general answer, JW's rarely convert what most people would consider as normal or stable people.

Jeff, quit using all them fancy words.

I can remember most of the converts had problems. The born-ins were trying to get out, they were strolling in. I think the biggest thing is that they can get acceptance when they've never had it before. Trouble is, there was probably a reason they weren't accepted in society in the first place.

It is a combination of factors. They are actively recruiting from prisons and mental institutions to give them false hope while inflating the numbers. Prisoners and mental patients are less likely to defect from the cancer because they cannot function in normal society. These people are more likely than normal people to do serious things like molesting children, kidnapping people, and killing and eating babies. Most people in regular society, at least in civilized countries, would puke at the thought of eating a baby.

Additionally, their policies and doctrines are increasingly devaluing the present life. This has always been a problem--and, when you devalue the present life, it makes it easier to kill someone "to give them a shortcut to the next life". A combination of this and the stress of always having to do boasting sessions and field circus, and you have a recipe for disaster. Children get beaten to death because the parents are in a rush to get out in field circus or the Kingdumb Hell on time. Sexual repression, plus the ability for pedophiles to get away with it, leads to more molested children (usually by force, coercion, and/or trickery) while they are silenced about it.

Disruptive behavior at other religious events is expected when they demonize other religions. Back when I was in it, I disabled a set of Christmas lights by pulling one bulb out of each set and replacing it so the leads did not make contact. I got in trouble and had to reset the bulbs so they worked. Other witlesses have resorted to slashing decorations on private property--and egging houses where Christmas decorations were found. Unlike my workplace stunt with the Christmas lights, slashing decorations results in irreversible damage while egging houses made a mess (that they did not clean up). Add in more mental cases and increasing intolerance for the world, and you are going to have more cases of irreversible damage to private property, disruptions of church related services and community events, and even baby killings.

I can only wonder how the witlesses would feel if the cops would disrupt their boasting sessions. Perhaps removing the batteries in their cordless mics or disconnecting the corded mics and coating the leads with Teflon or other non-conductive material would show them what happens when they instill intolerance for holidays where a worker feels impelled to disable or destroy holiday ornaments. Or, disrupting the boasting session to hunt for information on a pedophile case would show them how they feel about a worldly religious or community function being disrupted. How about a public service warning about how the witlesses are a cult, as dangerous as the Moonies and Scientologists, so people will not respond to the message? I wonder how the witlesses would feel about having the police egging the Kingdumb Hell.

I have often thought of that. If a JW murders, they are just helping someone out who would die anyway. Give 'em a shortcut.

I always found it odd that my parents didn't want to associate with anyone from their Halls outside of meetings or assemblies/conventions. They never had people over for parties or dinners or anything like that. The only time I ever saw a get together is when I was packing my parents' house contents for their move out of their farm. My father and his JW buddies sat around the kitchen table drinking rum while I worked ( ).
