I used to be one of the 'mature' brothers who asked the questions.

    Please forgive me.

Backroom was always just 'reaching out' meetings for me or rating out other people.

    I was squeaky clean.

AKA my Dad never found the porn hidden in my closet and I never got caught getting bombed every weekend with my buddies!

I was asked if I was doing research in order to disprove the Society.

Well, indeed I was studying classics and I had just done my research in Greek and Latin literature on the meaning of stauros and crux. I realized that the Society was not being honest about its claims, and that bothered me a great deal. The same goes for the Trinity broshure, as I was already familiar with the writings of the church fathers, and I was really bothered about what the Society said about them as well. But I researched the original sources to discover the truth, not the "disprove the Society" as if that were my goal.

I have been there for stupid things--like polishing my shoes, wearing the proper color dress shirt, and picky things like that. And I am not going back there--if I get dragged physically into the back room, I will bring a recording device and try to figure out how to post it online (and use it as evidence in court for attempted kidnapping). Better I should be assumed disfellowshipped in my absence and left that way--at least that way, they will never have another yoctosecond of my field circus time.

You always knew it was serious when the Elders not only shut the door, but closed the blinds for privacy. This was also the 'sign' to others to stay out.

So after the service meeting, even with the 'stay out' like signs posted, a JW sister JUST HAD to go in the back room to get her son's 'blankie'. Told not to do it by a MS, she knocks on the door, as she opens it, saying 'I'm sorry', walks across the room and retrieves the 'blankie', while covering the side of her eyes, like a blinder with her hand, so as not to see a JW sister crying and sobbing, pouring out her heart to the Elders.

Several of us turned to the sound of this sister crying. Speaking of starting a rumor mill, watching a married JW sister, sobbing to the Elders, without her husband in the room.

Yup, before i got baptized and after. horrable cold sweats like you are about to pooh yourself. and you feel like they are trying to get you to confess to something bigger that you didn't do.... yeah... loads of fun. reason enough to NOT go to meetings!

In one small KH I attended, we had the 'closet'. It was by the bathroom and stored cleaning supplies. This was the only time I was ever asked to the backroom for potential discipline.

My crime? I had made the mistake of joking after I was appointed an MS, of saying the JW's had a secret handshake to a friend. So here we are, two Elders and me, crowded in a broom closet, me being 'grilled' by what I meant, 'secret handshake'. The whole time they were questioning me, I was thinking, "some friend, he couldn't come to me, but nooooo, he had to go to the Elders".

You had to wonder what it looked like to others, seeing three men coming out of the broom closet, with one of the Elders, his arm around my shoulder, consoling me.
