There are many volunteer programs that are helping people and not companies...not hard to find, start with United Way, Red Cross, your local food bank, etc.

I run the online bookstore out of my home for a non-profit organziation that promotes safe and healthy childbirth. I am also on the board of another organization that is just starting up and also promotes safe & healthy childbirth I also moderate 2 yahoogroups for them. I spend MANY hours a month as an unpaid volunteer in these efforts with these 2 organizations.
