Whatever you do reflects on Jehovah

I heard a witness say this. Sorry if my question seems stupid, but I'm not a JW and I don't know any better. I have the feeling that this phrase means that you have to carefully weight your every word and action so the worldlies won't have a bad opinion of the WTS?

    I will appreciate any posts.

DGP. You got it figured out pretty well. That's exactly what it means.

And this also means you will often do what you wouldn't, just because your actions would reflect on Jehovah?

"And this also means you will often do what you wouldn't"

No offense but that statement doesn't mean any since....

I think what you mean is... "why does my JW/NonJW boyfriend or girlfriend oscillate between being a prude and being consumed with lust. It's because JW's are people with all the same emotions and feelings that "wordlies" have. We just think God is going to kill us because of them. There fore we give in but then get scared the second after that we are going to either A) be caught and disfellowshipped in public humiliation and losing our friends and family or B) die at Armagedoon and be humilated and never missed by or friends or family because we were evil.

Brocephus, actually I had that already well figured out. I know that very, very well, and I figured it out myself. My doubt is whether JW's would do social things they would rather not do if that didn't seem to bring "reproach on Jehovah's name". Like being polite to people they actually don't like at all, for example.

Yes will be polite.. but they are also brainwashed to believe God hates you and they are better than you if you reject the message or "the truth" in any way. You can stroke up by feigning interest as a while and they will treat you like a hog they are fattening up for a feast.

dgp, "And this also means you will often do what you wouldn't, just because your actions would reflect on Jehovah?"

I don't know if this is what you're referring to but going out in service, commenting at meetings. I hated doing those things and it went against my quiet, reserved nature. When I was in school there were clothes that I wanted to wear but didn't because it would bring a "reproach on Jehovah's name." There was always things I would or wouldn't do because of how it would reflect on the organization.

This is just another way of saying that you are supposed to do exactly as the Filthful and Disgraceful Slavebugger tells you. They dangle that people are watching you carefully, and might come into the cancer if you perfectly do as they say. It also means you are supposed to be willing to endure all sorts of abuse, beyond what even Jehovah Himself could bear, and not be affected in any way by it.

If JWs think they will get away with something without being noticed then they will do it. Case in point is my Father who had his license downgraded. He was supposed to drive with a licensed driver but didn't. It was eventually noticed by one of the elders and he was told he would lose his MS privileges if he kept doing so. Luckily he was able to pass his driver's exam and was reinstated.

But it's all good because he prayed to Jehovah for foregiveness each time he drove illegally.

Whatever you do reflects on Jehovah EXCEPT when we spread false prophecy by setting wrong dates for Armageddon.

Whatever you do reflects on Jehovah EXCEPT when you have child-molesters in the congregation or wife-abusers or let your child die

    rather than administer blood.

Whatever you do reflects on Jehovah Except for the Governing Body's blatant omission of Jesus and substitution of themselves as a mediator between God and man.

In other words, Do as we say and not as we do.
