we have had authors post here before but they started their own threads about it, don't post it on someone else's thread and hijack the thread, it is a huge turn off.

I haven't received my invite yet either. We may have to miss it as I don't know the time and place!

This will be our first year missing it as well... I think that if we can make it through the memorial and the next CO visit with the fade intact, we'll be ok. For a while.

I only attend these sort of gatherings if the invitation clearly states 'free wine tasting.'

Interesting that they chose to show Jesus on the cover of the tract alive!

I do believe that "Memorial" is an insider jw slang term.

I have seen "Lord's Evening Meal" and some jws shorten that to LEM

I can see them using "anniversary" to make more clear their opinion that it happens only once a year not several times a month (or daily or many times daily).

Again it reminds us that the new testament itself does not specify this as a "memorial" or "remembrance of his death".

The arguments to do this only on the closest lunar date to (the no longer celebrated) Jewish feast is picked out of the air.

I hope more attenders see the emptiness of this occasion this year. Though, I went many years and sensed the emptiness. I remember feeling like we were quickly "herded in and herded out" to get the next congregation in, and thinking with cynicsm "what is this all about, this is THE big day?!".

Well, here's toasting hopefully to lesser attendance numbers for their memorial/celebration/anniversary/remembrance/Lord's evening meal/LEM, Lord's invitational/annual biggest day!

I went to only one 'memorial'. My teacher was so excited that I would finally come to the kingdom hall (my husband was always dead-set against it), so sure that I would feel the love and power of it all once there. I never did tell her that I felt nothing, except the emptiness... the wrongness... that we passed the wine and stuff and never joined in. There were no elders or 'john' class to observe anyway. I thought something might just be wrong with me, or that I might be uncomfortable because I was in a new situation. But I never felt any desire to go back.
