Surely we are not attempting to make a heroienne out of this crazy woman?
She was just as bad as her husband.
Not a crazy woman in the least.
She was a highly intelligent and self-disciplined woman who was motivated in what she felt was a positive direction just like every other Christian who has come along in the last two thousand years.
Her ideas were no more or less crazy than Martin Luther or Pat Robertson or Joel Osteen. Religion is itself CRAZY--is it not?
Do we measure her sanity in terms of our contemporary belief systems? That would be silly.
What strikes me as important about Maria is this. She was way ahead of her time in approaching women's rights issues IN TERMS OF THE CHRISTIAN CHURCH. She gave reasons and reasonings which reflect a lot of contemporary scholarship.
I think she was way too smart and dynamic to be a shadow on C.T.Russell.
It is abundantly clear Maria Russell was marginalized by Charles Russell by UNDERHANDED means.
And, in the final analysis---Russell's personal integrity is strongly reflected in the consequent religion he founded and which exists today OPPRESSING WOMEN and marginalizing them by underhanded means.

There have been so many remarkable women propping up the Watchtower religion without any credit or respect. It is really a horrible and intolerable crime against humanity.

That is true enough, but did Maria Russell actually provide much doctrinal input into the early witness beliefs? I had the idea that Russell kind of copied most of it from some male associates and of course from the adventists.
