Can You Get DFd for Working for the Department of Defense?

Wow....just wow. The hypocrisy is so thick here, you could cut it with a knife.

So let me get this straight, the WTBTS can be a United Nations (Wild Beast remember?) UN/NGO for library, but you can't take up work at a sub-contractor for the Department of Defense for the USA???

Hahahahahahahahahahaha!! What utter bull-f*cking-shit!! Anyone not liking my job would immediately be shown the press release from the United Nations website that declares the WTBTS a UN NGO affiliate.

As someone stated above, any normal person viewing this would automatically think, "What a f*cking CULT!!" How controlling and manipulative.

Let's be honest here, shall we? You're not working down in some missle silo in Missouri where you have your finger on the button of 4 minute-man intercontinental ballistic thermonuclear warheads, right?? I mean, I don't think as a Christian I could do it, although the military in me says that I would only be an instrument of destruction, carrying out the orders of others, not actually making the "kill" descision myself. Kind of like the "Angel of Death" who swept over Eygpt, was HE to blame for the killing of the first borns, or was it YHWH who made the call? The Angel of Death was merely and instrument of descruction. So me personally I wouldn't have a problem, but as a Christian I wouldn't work in missle silo launching missles.

Sorry to sidetrack, but your families arguments (and witness logic) is seriously flawed and ludicrious. I also agree with other posters on here who stated that you shouldn't have opened your d*mn mouth to begin with!! You must WANT to be DF'd is all I can think. Knowing what you know, why in the hell would you even elude to the Department of the Defense, or any other governmental position?

I would like to point out though the WT's current stance on being a policemen. JW's can now be policeman and still be in good standing. I'm not sure when it was reversed, but YES, you CAN now be in law enforcement and still be a JW, you are not automatically DA'd like in years past. Don't ask me to quote it, I'll let Blondie find it....but there are JW's who are in the FBI, Federal Marshall's, etc and are not DF'd or DA'd due to this new standing. Most JW's won't like them, but they are out there.

Your bro is probably just jealous as hell. Jealousy is what drives alot of people to drudge up these man-made pharisitcal rules to try and hold you down. See, they are miserable, and we all know misery loves company, especially JW misery. Why would you want to be SUCCESSFUL? WE are your spiritual paradise! Why don't you want to sell everything off as Jesus commanded and follow Him, right into poverty? You'll be much happier living paycheque to paycheque, and you won't have the hassle of worldy material possessions? Just move into a trailer park, clean toilets, and pioneer as much as you can, for the End is Near, since 1874!!!

    Ugggh.

Since it is just your brother we are talking about, is there a way to lie to him?

"Brother, it turns out that the job is not under the [Navy] umbrella, but it actually is for the Department of Transportation."

....or some such turn of events just to keep him from considering going to the hounders.

Daniel-P, send me a PM and we can talk offline. At one point I got a security clearance to do work with SOCOM, I have many times had to navigate this treacherous area. I can offer some guidance. In fact, I am still navigating it.

I spoke with my wife concerning this last night. She pointed out that there was a 'brother' in her cong working for NASA. Now while I know that NASA is government funded, I did not really consider them a part of the DoD. Anyway, she went on to point out that she did not think those witnesses married to military men and women who are obviously not witnesses should not be DF'd. After all, we do live in a heavy military area.

Still though, active witnesses cannot be a part of the military due to the whole 'nationalism' thing she says. However, lots of 'brothers' are retired military. This prompted me to pick her brain on the lack of integrity that I see.

"Does that 'brother' collect military retirement?"

    "Yes."

"So he is still benefitting from the military. If he is still benefitting, what right does he have to tell a younger brother not to join the military? Shouldn't this younger brother have the benefit as well?"

She tried to explain to me that the retired brother is just 'benefitting' from his past involvement with something that he now knows is wrong. She made many faulty arguments to support their stance. Sorry, but the whole thing wreaks of hypocrisy and a complete lack of integrity. If being in the military is wrong, why continue to receive the benefits of a military pension? Return the money or give it all to the poor.

I know the military pension pays handsomely because my dad is retired Army and his pension pays his new mortgage, which is by no means cheap. Plus I think he has money left over and that's before they factor in the money from his and his wife's jobs. They're set for life.

Needless to say, her cult personality began to surface and I quickly brought the subject back to the original question of the title of this thread. I reassured her that I loved her and let her have her twisted logic on this.

The only thing that concerns me is how this will affect my wife and her family who we are very close to.

Having come from a military family, having been a military wife for 15 years, and having moved to several congregations where a lot of the brothers are ex-military, I can tell you without a doubt, that none of them ever turned down a government paycheck OR gave back their government retirement paychecks.

I know this isn't "military" for you , but it's government, but as long as you bring in a great big paycheck, I'll bet you wont hear much from your wife or jw family. She will start to say then, "oh this is the means by which my husband provides so there's not much I can say or do about it etc....." That's the great excuse for someone getting a government paycheck.

    Even if you get df'd.

BTW it is not a matter of working for the government but for a military agency or branch of the government. After all, reasoning that there is no problem working for the government would cover also working for the Army, Navy, etc., as branches of the government and we know the WTS does not support that. This is the WTS reasoning not mine; I did mention that family member worked for a "civilian" part of the military but was still required to quit.

    just reporting, not supporting

Sorry but as you can see defence, politics and religious groups are a big NO. One brother asked if it was ok to deliver cola to the military base that was part of his delivery route and the society said no. He was told to change his route or change his job.

This is another good example of why the loony society should allow more individual conscience decisions for heavens sake.

When will the Wacktower realise that sometimes the defence of your country is given priority, individual J. Witnesses need to be given the God given right to think for themselves. There is unlawful killing and lawful killing , the Israelites knew that when they went into battle and how many early christians worked for the Romans in one way or another?

The same goes for blood transfusions and if that isn't unlawful killing sometimes I don't know what is. Common sense should be the rule everytime.

If the Watchtower Org. need to live seperate lives from the World let them spend all that lovely loot from property sales on an island somewhere and let all of them go and live there in order not to be tainted by Satan.

Just as long as they leave us to get on with living while we try to make the World a better place.

Sorry if I am getting off subject, but I would be very interested in seeing any references or links that show a change in the JW stance on working in law enforcement that wing commander mentions. I was not aware of any such change...thanks!

ten, I don't have my CD, but I will tell you that you can only be in law enforcement if you are not required or do not carry a gun. I know that some jws work in jails where guns are not allowed.
