The elders knew about his surgery but because of confidentiality they couldn't tell the sister so she didn't find out until their wedding night and she couldn't divorce him.

I would actually believe this out of this wacky religion.

"...it's crazy. He eventually got married to a woman. The elders knew about his surgery but because of confidentiality they couldn't tell the sister so she didn't find out until their wedding night and she couldn't divorce him."

I wish this person could be warned, but, like a friend of mine (below) I have a feeling this will end very badly.

I had a JW friend and fellow pioneer 35 yrs ago who, unbeknownst to me and everyone, except the Elders -- was gay. He lasted 5 years and was DF'd -- yep, cause he was still an uncured gay. He was a good-lookin' guy and the girls loved him. Marriage was in the plans a few times, despite the fact that the Elders who studied with him -- promised -- The Truth -- would cure him. It didn't. They were unbelievably nasty at his JC -- all 10 elders (pre-Big A 1974) came to wag their fingers, Bibles and tongues at him.

They told him Big J had turned His Big Back on him and, "...he would be better off dead -- now -- rather than be killed at the Big A...and never get a resurrection!" Since he was still a True Believer...he left that Star Chamber and tried to immediately kill himself...many times over the next few years.

He was my friend, but, knowing (can you say 'the JC leaks?') (I...vass chust fallowing orders, mein Fuhrer!) I treated him horribly. But, I was proud of it back then.

After all these years, we met again and I begged forgiveness -- thinking he must hate me for my 'christian' cruelty. He didn't. He understood exactly who and what Jehovah's Witnesses were and, just what was expected -- and of course -- what the penalty was for disobedience.

    He is...my friend again.

Oh, yeah -- he's still gay.

    Born in the Wrong Body?

? "Transsexualism" is a word appearing with growing frequency in the news. A transsexual is not merely a transvestite (one who dresses in clothes of the opposite sex), nor necessarily a homosexual (though that may be the case). A transsexual is a person who rejects the sex with which he or she was born and takes up the life of the other sex. Claiming they were, in effect, "born in the wrong body," many have undergone radical surgery and hormone treatments to attain a sexual transformation. An estimated 1,500 persons in the United States and about 150 in Britain have done so. What really do they accomplish? Is it possible to change a normal person (not a hermaphrodite of ambiguous sex) from one gender to another?

The answer is, No. As Dr. Georges Burou, a French surgeon prominent in the field, says: "I don't change men into women. I transform male genitals into genitals that have a female aspect. All the rest is in the patient's mind." ("Time," Jan. 21, 1974, p. 64) In reality, the ultimate result is either a severely (and irreversibly) mutilated man who resembles a woman, or a severely (and irreversibly) mutilated woman who resembles a man.

The increase of transsexualism is but one more facet of the spread of practices "contrary to nature" characterizing much of this present period. (Compare Romans 1:26.) The remedy for those with such inclinations is not surgery but a change in outlook, ‘being made new in the force actuating their minds' with the aid of God's Word.-Eph. 4:22-24.

intersexed is a more appropriate term than hermaphrodite
and is not the same as being transgendered

there is an ex JW named sam davies with whom i have corresponded...
he has this article on a site "Gender Centre, Inc" describing how he was
treated by the b0rg when he was public about being transgender
    http://www.gendercentre.org.au/46article6.htm

my son's being a transgender saved me from the b0rg...
no way was i letting anyone, god included, sever the
bonds i had with my child... best decsion i have made to date......

i hope the woman mentioned in the OP escapes unscathed...
too bad her reality cannot be celebrated but is rather something
the idiots in brooklyn think they can judge....

gender binary is a social structure, not a biological reality!!

BTW.... that story about a transwoman reverting to acting like a man?
sounds pretty improbable, based on my experience as an insider in
the queer community.... not saying it CAN'T happen, just sounds like
    a JW urban legend.....

I remember once reading --- and wondering about the meaning of --- these Bible passages:

    1 Corinthians 7 (NWT)

17 Only, as Jehovah has given each one a portion, let each one so walk as God has called him. And thus I ordain in all the congregations. 18 Was any man called circumcised? Let him not become uncircumcised. Has any man been called in uncircumcision? Let him not get circumcised. 19 Circumcision does not mean a thing, and uncircumcision means not a thing, but observance of God’s commandments [does]. 20 In whatever state each one was called, let him remain in it. 21 Were you called when a slave? Do not let it worry you; but if you can also become free, rather seize the opportunity. 22 For anyone in [the] Lord that was called when a slave is the Lord’s freedman; likewise he that was called when a freeman is a slave of Christ. 23 Y OU were bought with a price; stop becoming slaves of men. 24 In whatever condition each one was called, brothers, let him remain in it associated with God.

The Watchtower Society might interpret this verse to mean that this person wouldn't have to try and reverse their operation. I wonder if this could be applied in this situation: if someone is living a full life as a transgendered person --- and perhaps even married --- they should continue to live their lives as a transgendered person.

Perhaps others who have a grasp of the original Greek, could let us know what this verse may mean in connection with this type of situation.

Perhaps she/he can break the female elder barrier.

As long he/she has a penis, then he/she is qualified.
