Do you think Roethlesberger would be suspended if he was black?

Dogs are more important than women?

    Sarcasm:

A form of humor that is marked by mocking with irony, sometimes conveyed in speech with vocal over-emphasis. Insincerely saying something which is the opposite of one's intended meaning, often to emphasize how unbelievable or unlikely it sounds if taken literally, thereby illustrating the obvious nature of one's intended meaning.

    Mock indignation.

I've got to get Vick's # from my niece.
    Light-hearted banter.

    You're welcome, sir.

Yes, I do. It's disgusting that he is still not facing any sanctions from the NFL. And also that this story about him hasn't been plastered all over EVERY media outlet possible. 2 sexual assault accusations in less than a year? PS-I'm a 41y white woman.

I think the Duke university case really muddied the waters on this kind of stuff. The police are going to want to make sure they have their ducks in a row before they do anything. Roethlesberger is no doubt going to play the "she's a golddigger card" as a defense. The NFL may well be smart to wait and see what happens in court.

Excuse me, yes Pacman Jones was charged, but not convicted of anything. He did plea to a charge. This is not in defense of Pacman Jones.

I just think that if certain other players were to have the motorcycle accident without a valid license or permit, and two sexual assult charges - there would be folks calling for his head. I don't see that in this case.

I'm asking opinions, that is all, as to whether you think his color softens the outcry.

P.S. - In my opinion Michael Vick should not be on any NFL team. He's allowed to make a living, but not entertaining me.

It hasn't exactly been hidden on the back page, either. It's certainly more widely publicized then any of Pacman Jones' transgressions.

The key word being 'accusations'. He hasn't been convicted of anything. The first alleged victim didn't even file a police report. She filed a civil lawsuit over a year after the alleged incident.

And there were off-duty police officers present when the second incident allegedly happened. I'm not maintaining that he's innocent, only that you keep an open mind.

Keyer - I think people do have an open mind about this, but do you think they would have one if Ben played linebacker and was black? That's my question. What do you think?

Yes they would. People want to believe in their sports heroes, white or black. I remember James Lofton being acquited of rape back in the '80's, and no one batting an eye. And what about Kobe Bryant's alleged rape? Most people have forgotten that already.

And your comparison of Ben Roethlisberger and Pacman Jones is simply not valid. Pacman's transgressions repeatedly involved drugs and/or guns, which is precisely the image Roger Goodell was trying to rid the NFL of when he implemented his zero-tolerance policy. Until more is proven, Roethlisberger's only mistake was going out in public. Driving a motorcycle without a license is pretty weak, certainly too weak too bring race into the discussion.

I'm certainly not bothered by the lack of mc license, but we've seen incidents like that become a bigger deal as people pile on for "lack of regard for authority".

I would really hope that everyone is looked at and handled the same by the NFL.

It is my opinion that if there are any charges filed he should be suspended.

Let's just remember that for every Pacman Jones there is also a Michael Irvin --- a lot of this depends on how valuable the player is and how much pull his team organization has with the NFL.
